2018 Steering Wheel Controls For Older RRS - Anyone Done It?

Hi all

My loaner is a 2019 and has the newer controls that illuminate, wow they feel so much nicer. I thought I saw a thread about the retrofit that needs an adaptor module to get everything to work, maybe was on the 405 forum, but has anyone done the retrofit on here please? Mines a 2016 SVR with lane assist, heated wheel etc.

Thanks

Carl

Same here.

I’m sure I saw that somebody here has done this, but would love to do it too.

I’ve looked into it, the module / loom you need is about £400 plus the touch controls themselves.

But it can be done.

Forum member Tonywolf has successfully installed the newer switches. I’m awaiting the loom - I have the newer steering wheel & new switch packs the only recycled items will be the airbag & paddles. I’ve been told it can take 2 weeks for the part to arrive but as soon as it’s here it will be fitted the same day. I will take a few pics & a video but I’m not expecting any issues Rolling Eyes Cost has risen to over £700 but never mind Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Email the address below & quote your VIN number. - he is based in Romania & will confirm if the loom is compatible with your L494. He responded pretty quick to my emails.

adrian@customretrofit.ro

I believe there may be 2 different finishes on the switch packs - one has a chrome finish the other has a black surround. I went for the chrome to match my current set up & new steering wheel. Apologies I don’t know the numbers for the other colour.

LR092578 & LR092579 are the switch packs.

Good luck Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Thanks Peachy!

Ordered.

$1000 USD later. I really think it’ll tie my carbon fiber wheel and leather airbag cover together.

Jeez, that’s expensive. The switches are only £76 each. The loom in rather a lot.

Upgrade done Thumbs Up Bullet Points to consider. ( I learned the hard way ) Rolling with laughter

1. If you have In Control Remote put your Sport into service mode otherwise after disconnecting the battery you will activate the theft alert. Big Cry
2. Make sure you physically open the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the battery - plenty of info on YouTube how to do this. Once disconnected do not push the tailgate closed Big Cry
4. I used a small flat head screwdriver to access the airbag spring - again plenty of videos on YouTube to see how to remove the airbag. When the bottom spring becomes loose the top two will pull out straight. When disconnecting the actual cables from the airbag I used a microfibre towel to keep the front airbag surface from getting marked by surrounding switches. It marks easily & needs manoeuvring to enable cable removal. Keep the removed airbag in a safe place. Big Cry
5. Remove the harness cables from the clock spring & then the steering wheel Torx T50 needed.
6. Swap all components needed to your steering wheel & add the new loom & switch packs.
7. Installation is the opposite from removal.
8. Everything tested & checked with no issues found.
9. You may need to recalibrate your electric windows due to battery disconnection & Put the app back to normal.
FYI - the right switch has 2 extra buttons - Speed limiter which works on mine & lane departure which will be tested tomorrow. These wasn’t on the original switch that was removed.

Pics to be added shortly of finished mod. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

All good pointers Peachy!

I remember when I disconnected my battery for when I installed my powerful UK carbon steering wheel and somehow spaced and closed my rear hatch.

That made for reconnecting the battery not so much fun.
