Tow Bar or not Tow Bar???

So this might be a daft question but all RRS fitted with a tow bar receptacle? A couple I have called about when asked have said no tow bar, however I can just buy the Swan neck part off eBay.

That got me thinking whether every RRS is fitted with the hole and electrics it just depends on whether the original owner specced the tow bar as to whether it comes with the whole shooting match?

I would ideally like a tow bar (bike rack and horse box) so if it doesn’t have one is it an expensive aftermarket fit?

Si

The original RRS (up to the new one) was fitted o receive the tow bar. The bar fits in to a receiver in the rear cross member. A removable bar is an easy find on ebay (or indeed here). The electrics for the bar are fairly straight forward to add as a DIY or garage fit if not already fitted (and they weren't fitted unless ordered from the factory with the tow bar.) 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

There are quite a few posts about the removable tow bar and there was a recall because of wear and subsequent failure.
If you regularly tow a heavy box with a horse on board you may want to consider a fixed one.
When a car gets traded in, the removable bars are often taken out and sold on ebay (or forums) so the car may have been used for towing so it's worth checking if the recall has been done. If there is no wiring (behind the panel under the rear bumper on the L320), then it probably hasn't towed.

Hi just in case you want to check if the sport your looking at (presume) earlier rather than the latest model has the electrics already in it's easy to remove the panel (@2m20s into video), just go steady on the older ones as ahem easy to snap the screws as can go brittle Embarassed and cost a whopping £1.29 a pair to replace, er a um friend had to replace theirs. Whistle
The full video is useful to check your tow hook is deploying properly too. Thumbs Up

Thanks for posting the video, a picture is worth etc. Thumbs Up I confess I haven't test fitted mine although I did find it didn't have the red plug when I looked (actually cheaper from my local LR parts dept than ebay!)
For the OP, the RRS doesn't have the electrics installed, and you can see them on the D4

The best bit about that video is that it's a great demonstration of when it isn't in properly (the first few times) - and credit to them, they didn't edit that bit out so we can actually learn Thumbs Up Good vid.. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

That’s a REALLY useful video thanks for posting, interesting to see if you weren’t aware of that red collar disappearing completely you could be forgiven for thinking it was fitted properly.
