Retrofit Power Liftgate

Dear all,

I'm currently trying to figure out, if it is possible to match the electronics for the power tailgate of a 2010+ L320 model to a MY 2008 Range Rover Sport.

Regarding the mechanics I don't see that much challenges, but some electrical signals mentioned in the "Electrical Reference" (JLR 16 23 21_7E) are different then it's the case for the 2008 model wiring diagram.
To be able to understand the function, especially of the "Switch-Override-Inertia" C3737 better I'd like to ask for a wiring diagram of the 2010-2013 model.
Does anyone have this document and would be so nice and provide it to me?

Thanks in advance.
Klaus

Do you mean the power tail gate of the 2012MY where the whole tail gate lifts in one piece? 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)
2012 5.0 SC AB. Sadly written off by a campervan

Yes, I mean the power tailgate. I don't exactly know in which MYs it was available, but I thought it came with the 2010 facelift...

The power tail gate is the 2012MY, you would need a whole new tail gate with the 2 lifters/actuators.

Normal 2010MY tail gate. No silver strip and has a button in the bottom right.

2012MY tail gate, no button and note the silver strip, the top of which is level with the top of the tail lights.

2010MY tail gate with a 2012 lookalike silver strip which is above the top of the tail lights and still has the button.

I wouldn't bother. The old split hatch was more useful and more reliable. Press the button and lift. The power tail has a habit of not working properly. Half the time these days I press the button, it unlatches and then I lift it manually - which is hard work as the motors add drag. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I was not aware of the fact, that only the MY2012 has the power tailgate.

However I was thinking, that just fitting the struts (+ drilling holes for the cables into the tailgate), the control module and the switch would be sufficient. Are you sure, that the struts won't fit in the MY 2008 mechanically?

A wiring diagram of the power tailgate would be great to be able check if the tailgate electronics are independent of the other control modules in the car or if it's somehow connected to the car's CAN Bus.

A split tailgate is also heaver, so more difficult to power open

My recollection is that the MY12 one piece tailgate is aluminium so therefore much lighter. I am guessing that the MY12 struts and electric motor may struggle to lift the original two piece steel tailgate. Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

Gone: 2016 SDV6 HSE
2012 SDV6 SE

Horses for courses. Have never had any tailgate probs on my 2012 over 3.5 yrs and 60k miles. Probably famous last words Smile That said if it wasn't fitted I wouldn't bother messing about with a retrofit, but each to their own. I prefer the 2012 on look but with the split functionality.

So are you saying you fitted a aftermarket kit to convert the two piece tailgate to powerlift operation? I think there may be a few people interested in that if you care to post a link to the supplier.

Cheers
Col
