Sorry to hear your news, KieRRSAB. My engine is currently being replaced, but I haven't been given any details on the failure yet.

I am fairly appalled to hear that it won't be guaranteed beyond September.

It's common in general industry; warranty replaced parts only have the same warranty as the original product. Otherwise you'll could have a never ending warranty - evergreen. I cant see LR wanting that!

but if you pay for new items, they should have a new warranty period. Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

My understanding is, that if you a pay contribution towards the repair, they 2 year warranty remains

My understanding. This may or may not have been heard correctly/forgotten details over the years...

Minor update: they are telling me it was diagnosed as a 'bottom end bearing; failure and not taken apart because LR authorised replacement. This seems to be in line with what we expected. Could be sorted by the end of the week.

What gets me is the 2.7d was fine,no bearing or crank issues, how can they get it so wrong with the 3.0d? What’s changed??

hate to say this, but the 2.7 engine also had its bottom end issues. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Always bear in mind who you pay. Generally JLR is one step removed in the 'legal' chain of responsibility for a repair and the quality of the workmanship and hence 'warranty' responsibility.

If a dealer/ garage undertakes a repair then normal Consumer Rights 2015 come into play.

The Motor Ombudsman organisation operate a dispute resolution service that pretty much follows the 2015 regulations...

So for any engine repairs these bits might be relevant...

Service and Repair Code
Clause 3.4 – The garage undertakes to guarantee all service and repair work against failure. It will inform the customer where parts are provided with a manufacturer’s warranty. The garage will tell the customer about the duration of any warranty or guarantee and how to exercise it.
Clause 6.1 – The garage will take effective, immediate action in order to ensure that a customer receives a just settlement of their complaint.

Hi all
A final update. After the last one above, the dealer called again to say the engine job was finished already! I'm told the 'master tech' did it - he must work quickly.
Anyway, I picked the car up this afternoon and all seems well. The explanation says 'replaced engine due to suspect bottom end bearing fault.' The price of the fix was £15366.89 precisely.
It's nice to be back in my own vehicle, of course, but my confidence is a bit knocked. The making of plans for September continues ... I had a drive of an SVR the other day!

I don't seem to be talking myself out of it! I'm going to get a 24 hour demo of a 2018 SVR when one is available, so that will probably seal it. Needless to say, the configuration and all financial details have already been worked out to give the correct answer!

Good to be fixed up, onwards and upwards ...
