Engine management light on now , what next !!!

So on Friday the tailgate gets stuck in the closed position which thanks to this great forum I sorted without the cost or visit to the stealers which I am extreamily grateful . The next day on a short journey the Engine management light comes on and stays on until I get home . My only thought at this point is to check the fuses because when I was trying to sort the tailgate problem I checked the fuses for it and I immediately thought maybe I've caught something within the fuse housing !! Anyhow as a matter of course I decide to replace the two fuses that have the same picture as the display on the dash ( engine solouett) and hey presto it's cured ........so far anyway . The two fuses I took out seemed ok but I changed them anyway and now the car starts up and the amber light goes out as it should ! Could this be a coincidence and maybe something is lurking round the corner ?? Hope not

I'd try the 'hard reset' and see if rebooting the system clears a potential glitch in the software - its large based on a Microsoft core.

Battery disconnect wait 30seconds and reconnect.

To do a reset of the system you remove the positive a negative leads from the battery and then touch the two together, purging any residual power in the system, leaving the leads disconnected over night isn't as effective as the above technique. Thumbs Up

Ok will give that a try because today the EML came on again but when I got home I left it for a couple of hours and the light has gone off again but I will try the hard reset routine if it occurs again as I suspect it will ! The car is at the stealers on Thursday for front ARB BUSHES , not sure if to mention what's been going on this last 2 weeks in case they spend time checking stuff out then charging me a small fortune Big Cry

Hi Bodsy , is it always a case of renewing EGR valves or is there a way of fixing ? ( if you decide not to blank them )

Fault codes read and has come up as suspected EGR Valves defect . So far the performance from the car has not changed ( no loss of power and no black smoke out the back ) have been advised as not to worry about them yet , strangely the EML has gone out and been off for passed 3 days
