Parking sensors come on when driving - is this right?

As per title, when driving, if I slow down to about 5mph, the parking sensors arm themselves. When I drive off again and get above 5mph or so, they disarm. Is this right?

I have read my owners manual and that only states they come on if you select reverse or switch them on manually.

Thanks. PhillH.

Yes Phil, all working ok.

Handy for parking front end on as they are armed when you approach obstacle at low speed. There is a facility to turn this off if you wanted to.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Assuming the car has “auto parking aid”, as Lyonhead said this is normal behaviour which can be turned on/off from the centre console screen. In MY16, if desired, this feature needed to be enabled each time the car was started as it always went back to “off”. Then a software fix was developed so the car remembers the setting now. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

On my 2008 you have to turn them on for forward parking. Reverse gear turns both front and rears on Robin

My L494 doesn't have auto parking aid thingy and the parking sensors come on while the car is in traffic which can be a pain in a traffic queue and I have to press the inhibit button to silence them or increase the distance between me an the car in front. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for all your replies, its obviously working fine. Car is a 2005 RRS HSE. I have had it for just over a year now and only really noticed it when the car was stopped in traffic and a pedestrian crossed close to the front or rear of the car and set off the bleeper.
