Hi hope I've posted this in the right place I recently purchased a 2008 rrs 2.7 hse with 47k miles
I new it had a few problems ( brakes air compressor and a few bushes ohh and handbrake issue ) but after spending money on it and now yesterday with no warning the central locking stopped

Neither lock or unlock works on the key or the boot button

And if I press the lock on the dash only the rear doors lock and the pass twitches

I know there a common fault door latches but would they both stop at the same time without warning and why doesn't the boot open by fob? I'm ok with mechanical fixes but electrical I'm like a chocolate chainsaw

I'm not a wealthy fella and considering selling if faults keep popping up I thought I'd be ok buying a low mileage one (apparently Ian wrights old rrs)

Any help would be appriciated

cant see why the battery would cause central locking problems

I'll try anything before taking it to the dealers
It was stood for a week while I was on holiday but was working when I got back for 5 days so I doubt it's a battery issue but I am far from clever when it comes to electrics

Well like I said to the Mrs maybe it's the fob battery knackered and the two front doors never locked I mean I never actually checked if they were locked after pressing the button
And there's nowhere around here to check if it's working so I'll chance buying a new one

You can get a key tester off ebay for around £30, or your local garage may have one. I personally don't think it's the key though, there seems to be something fundementally wrong with the whole system. The door lock contorl module may be on the friz.

The fob isn't doing anything

If I take the key apart and check the voltage in the battery it will rule out that atleast correct? Or no

Well I managed to split my fob case without damaging it (poor previous fix by someone) and the battery wasn't connected on one side little temporary solder fix and it's working again

If you open the key you can test the battery yes, but the voltage on the battery doesn't dictate if the key works or not. You will also need to order a new case if you open the key, but before doing that, see if your local garage has a key tester, that will tell you if the key is emiting a signal and takes seconds to do.
