Update for SRE - had to visit petrol station yesterday and figure since last fill on 26/4 is just under 165 mpg

So far its had a couple of batteries Cost a bloody fortune
New rack under warranty
New Viscous/fan assy under warranty

Muddy, do you have a home charger unit?
I was parked at one of the local Park and Ride and an Outlander PHEV pulled into the charging points and the driver had a one hell of a job connecting and paying, loads of checking dashboard, unplugging and plugging in, swiping a card many many times but eventually it all seemed to connect up with charger talking to car OK. I asked him if it was always so much of a faff and must be annoying on a wet day. His reply was interesting - in 6 months it is the first time we have used a public charging point as we have one at home - last petrol we put in was >1800 miles ago....... and he still had 90% of his tank full. Claimed they had just done a 25 mile trip and the "charge" indicator was showing 5 miles remaining - in the year he had owned the car he had been able to run it almost as a pure EV which I found interesting as I didn't think the Outlander PHEV had that big an electric only range. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Doesn't work like that here in Scotland - there are "public" charge points that you can find on apps and you pay at but then (as I found out today) we have a Scottish Government Initiative that you pay £120 a year ( gets you a smart card and a special cable) to join and then you can use their special chargers that are popping up all over the place, often next to the existing pay ones. IIRC it costs £5-£6 for 30minutes charge (80% charge that is) on the public pay as you charge rapid chargers - so with petrol here £1.12 a litre it would only save a few pence to use the petrol engine anyway for a 20 mile drive. Talking to the guy I think he has the PHEV because of "range anxiety" if he could have managed with an EV with a bigger range he would have been in an EV.

It is also interesting to look at the prices of 2nd hand EV's - even the BMW i3 without the range extender - their depreciation is a mind numbing 70% in 12 months because the market for used EV's is tiny. You can pick up a low miles Renault Zoe (which is one of the better ones) year old, for £4000 - still has 6 years battery life BUT you have to pay Renault a rental fee for the battery..... also the early Zoe's had <60 miles range so no good as your only car unless you only drive a couple of miles each way a day or can be guaranteed to find a working charging point at your destination. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have a charge point at home Tim but never had any problems using public chargers if convenient when I'm out

Charges out and about are usually free for me or similar to home - I avoid the rip offs like Ecotricity at £3 connection plus 17p/kW
