Swapping the bars out should be straight forward enough, as would removing the old redundant piping. You would need a either a shorter serpentine belt or idler pulley to replace the ACE pump.

Why would you bother doing all of this? The RRS is supposed to be a better road-handling vehicle than the Disco. The DR bars also make for better off road ability than the solid bars - the system effectively behaves as if there are no bars when off road. It has its flaws but the pluses massively outweigh the minuses. By the time you've done all of this, made the vehicle a poorly performing example and worthless at resale, you may as well just replace a worn bar and have all of the benefits.

Can't say I've noticed lots of understeer in over 100k miles with my TDV8.

I think DR only comes with both bars on the RRS. The Disco 2 had ACE on the rear bar only. The RRS has two tunes for the DR system - one for the Supercharged and one for the TDV8. Presumably these tunes account for the difference in weight of the engines. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Is the DR set-up on TDv8 the same as the one that was on 2.7TDv6 HSE's fitted with the optional DR - this option also included the heavy duty steering rack that allowed you to run 20" wheels in the early days of RRS? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Not allowing for body roll, my D3 feels absolutely planted, and can hustle a good few hot hatches through the twisties No idea what an extra 120kg over the front axle will do though... |

I found the 2.7 very understeery and unwieldy, the tdv8 with the DR is a lot more planted. It has undersreered once, on a patch of diesel on a roundabout, at which point I was very grateful to the stability!

The TDV8 had the uprated rack as standard. The DR in the TDV8 uses a larger internal piston diameter in the rear bar than the one fitted to the TDV6 or S/C. The TDV8 has a different "map" in the DR module to the one used by the TDV6 / S/C. The relevant tunes are held in the DR module and selected when the module is installed. The TDV8 also has one slightly different pipe from the pump to the valve block compared to the others. This is to allow it to be removed more easily - presumably because the engine bay is so congested in the TDV8 because of the turbos etc. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
