Wishbone replace or not ??

Hi , I've had my 2008 tdv8 for 2 years now with 95000 on the clock and I'm wondering if its time to have the lower wishbones replaced , I've noticed that over rough ground a sort of knocking noise is noticeable but generally on normal road surface the car is fine with no real issues with steering . I understand from reading the post on this issue that most rrs would need this work done by the time they reach 70000 miles so I guess mine would benefit from having it done , just been quoted £795 , that's both sides and 4 wheel alignment incl vat from local Indy . Also they quoted £700 just for complete track rods which seemed a little expensive ?? Thou I don't imagine I would need complete track rods just the track rod ends on each side ( thought I'd get the quote for that probably overkill ) what's your thoughts please , cheers

A complete track rod with both ends is about £40 a side. So £80 for the front axle. Fitting isn't going to be several hours. The rear rods are about £60-70 each for OEM so £120-140 for the rear axle. Again, fitting isn't several hours. An alignment would be needed, obviously, but should be less than £100 if it's not at a LR dealership. I would think that £700 would be top end for the job.

As for whether your lower arms need changing, that depends on what the vehicle has been doing. 90k miles on the motorway is probably ok. 95k miles thumping around potholed roads and off road and they're probably well past their best. £795 for both arms plus alignment and the VAT sounds reasonable although, no doubt, someone will be along soon to say it's expensive! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just gone over the quote again and I quote " steering rack track and track rod ends £709.43 " which is way more than I expected , I doubt that a complete steering rack track would be needed , and I will ask them to quote for just new track rod ends

Ok thanks for the Indy info , just had a quote from my Indy 4x4 and they have quoted £260 just to replace track rod ends !!! I think the quote for the wishbones was a fair price at £795 but some jobs they quote seem way more than I would expect 😯 I just contacted my local stealers for price on parts only ( wishbones) and think I will do the job myself later this year
