I often have to leave my 2006 Sport parked up for a few weeks - Is the power drain on the battery less if I don't leave the car on full alarm? If so is there a big saving on power loss or is it not worth worrying about?!? Andrew Kennedy

Not directly answering your question, but isn't there something about if you leave your RRS in Access height, then it shuts down many electrical systems thereby saving your battery a bit? No doubt someone will add more detail if I'm right. In any case I think it's correct to leave it in Access height as it avoids strain on the air suspension.

I think alarms vary considerably by age of vehicle and model. With mine, one click is full lock and alarm, whereas two clicks give you locked and alarmed doors but no interior space protection. Robin

I am also wondering if I don't turn the radio of cassette player off prior to turning the ignition key off - is this leaving the radio or cassette player in standby mode which is taking power from the battery?!?!? Andrew Kennedy

I don't suppose anyone has actually measured the difference.

2 clicks disabling the interior sensors may use a tiny bit less.


If you are planning on leaving it for several weeks your best of choosing one of these options.


1) If leaving near a mains power socket. Purchase a CTEK 5 charger. Excellent bit of kit. Every RRS owner should have one!

2) Disconnect the battery. Cheap and easy. Will start when you return and not shorten the life of the battery.

3) If car outside, get a large 4W solar charger. Will need connecting direct to the battery as power sockets are shut down.

I haven't actually tried these on a RRS, but on other cars they keep the battery topped up.

you would have to do test for each setting to see how much difference it makes but don't think it will last days longer by not having them turned on.
Would depend more on where you are leaving it, to how you leave it in a garage/on the road outside/multi story carpark so security may be more important.

Know how to open the car if the battery has gone flat and how to power back up if using remote, have you got twin tow sockets? very useful to trickle charge via a Ctek or the likes, add power to use remote to unlock
