I definately think the builders have made a big boob! What worries me is why the floor, which sounds like quite a large part of it has cracked.

Your probably right aljo about the sub floor. Have any others in your area had a similar problem. We dig test holes to determine soil conditions and what lurks below the surface....believe me you would be surprised. Shocked

This was a single build house on the plot of a previous house. The new house half on the footprint of the old house but not where the kitchen is. My neighbours houses are 100 years old.

When the builders visited me 2 months back they came to the same conclusion as aljo. I think they don't want to pay for the work! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Amtico isn't a good idea!! If it were our problem we would take up the floor, determine what the 'real' problem was, unfortunately having underfloor heating will complicate things but to do the job properly a new floor needs to be laid.

I would suggest to the builder you are going to get another builder in and send him the bill for any costs. He will have to go back to the sub contractor and be reimbursed by them. he may have kept retention monies back for this purpose!

ive never used it personaly it but i believe amtico is a flexible material which would just hide further cracking on the floor itself ! ground bearing floor slabs do tend to sink slightly on new builds and lot of builders and architects are recommended not to use this floor slab design now and opt for reinforced suspended slabs .or block & beam floors it may well be that it has settled down by now but the size of the cracks would have me worried too and obviously if its to a great extent you want it sorting now

and i agree with caz to demand the original main contractor sorts it or send him the bill

N&B - the cracking is through the slabs which are about 2 cm thick. See pics of worst crack. As mentioned there are various others but not as bad as this.
