If you're looking at the v8 diesel then it would be worth considering the petrol instead, both petrol variants get similar mpg to the diesel but the engines are much more reliable.

If you can try get it on a ramp and look underneath for off-roading damage - OK so 98% of them never go further off the tar than the golf course car park but they are hugely capable cars off-road and some of us do take them where they were designed to go.

Is that really true? The best book figure I saw for the SC 4.2 was 19, and most users report 12-15mpg reguarly. Even with my relaxed approach to fuel consumption I couldnt justify that, so I tested the 2.7 and TDV8, the 2.7 was far too slow for me, so I bought the TDV8. Time will tell how much it breaks, and I would have loved the SC, but Im averaging 25mpg and get 28 on a run... |

Thats a slight exaggeration the petrol is far more juicy!! I've had a tdv6 d3 and now got a tdv8 rrs both return around the same with me and my wifes driving style. My mate had a supercharged and struggled to get above 15mpg at best. RRS Autobiography SDV6 19 Tesla model 3 long range SOLD! BMW f15 X5 m50d SOLD! Disco 5 HSE Lux SOLD! Evoque Dynamic Lux. SOLD! Ummm, unless you drive the petrol like a Saint and the TDV8 like the Devil himself, then no, the petrols don't get similar mpg. However, if the OP's intended annual mileage is low then the petrols start to become a worthwhile choice. If you're doing commuter mileage then the diesels are a no-brainer. The petrols do seem to have fewer engine related issues reported hereabouts, however, so that is a fair point. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

TDV8 for 5.5years, avg = 22mpg which includes wearing AT tyres, towing and off road. Seen 28mpg on a run even on ATs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Service history is crucial. If it's below 100k you can get a warranty for it. There is a buyers guide PDF on this site somewhere. |
