Advertised price VS actual price

Hi guys,

After much saving I will soon be in a position to buy my first RRS.

I am more than likely going to be going for a facelift TDV6 at around £18-20k.

One question for the experienced amongst us, what sort of money off can I expect to negotiate? I know its a bit vague and there will be differences but keen to hear peoples experiences.

Thanks in advance!

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Are you looking at buying from a franchised LR dealer, a specialist non-franchise LR dealer or your local Arthur Daley used car corner? I appreciate that LR franchised dealers don't often have RRS down at that price however they do take cars in as part exchanges at that price and if you let your local dealer know what you are looking for they may have somebody bringing what you are looking for in. It saves them shipping it off to the auctions if they have a customer that they know is looking for one but you will not get an Approved Used one unless what they are offering you is less than 10 years old and less than 100k miles. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've never managed a discount used off pendragon dealers ie Evans Halshaw/Stratstone as they claim to sell the cheapest available

Smaller family owned dealers used to give discount but not sure any left now - not round me anyway - all been swallowed by big franchises

Small independents will offer discount but be careful what you buy as I've read plenty of horror stories on here over the years and personally avoid them like the plague

Good luck with the search Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I paid £20 for mine and was advertised as £22.
Was a largeish family run place about 200 cars. I suppose it depends on how long they've had it.
But I'd start off offering the asking price -10%.

Don't try the -10% in a LR dealership, you'd be laughed out the door. Maybe £500 off if they've had it a while, but I can't see you'd get any more. 2012 RRS SDV6

Never let the dealer think their car is the only car you are interested in (demonstrate optionality).
Know the asking prices in the market for age, spec, mileage in order to identify if the sticker price is high, average, low to begin with.
Give the impression that you can wait, even though you do not want to wait, i.e. Ready to buy now, but you can wait, so if the deal isn't right then you will... well, wait! It's their sale to make or lose, basically.
If you make an offer bundle it with unequivocal commitment to proceed: "If we can deal at £20k including that warranty and the work we just talked about I will buy it now".
Remain friendly at all times. If you appear high maintenance they will probably want a higher price as compesnsation for the perceived hassle they will get post sale.
Pointing out faults with the car is just irritating to the seller. Praising the car but demonstrating optionality is the strongest buying signal you can give them.
Pretend you are working to an approved budget, so you cannot budge. The sales person might do the same and have to go off and apparently talk to the sales manager when in reality he is just making you sweat while he picks his nose and mulls his sales target.
If the salesman is seemingly desperate not to let you go then that is a signal of a sales target issue and you can play hardball and probably get a deal.
Sometimes it is worth paying a premium for the right car.. spec, colour, condition, history etc all spot on? Well, that is probably more important than securing a bargain that is also a compromise.

Sorry if any of that is teaching grandma to suck eggs, but it might be useful to bear in mind for some people who have not had the heinous pleasure of whoring their soul in the car sales industry. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

I managed to get £500 off my car at a LR main dealer. 62 plate Autobiography with 28k on the clock. That was after they had agreed to put 2 tyres on it and have all 4 wheels refurbished plus put a full tank of diesel in it. The car came in to them in the morning and I bought it in the afternoon.
Apart from the wheels and tyres I couldn't find anything to try and push the price down with but they started at £300 and I said make it £500 and we have a deal which they agreed to. After some of the crap I had looked at before this car I would of paid full price if I had to but it's always nice to feel like you got a better deal.

Picking up from the dealer at 9am this morning so just a little excited 😊

Well done Smarttech, overall you've gained approx £1,100.....
£500 in the deal, 4 wheels refurb approx £80 a corner, 2 tyres approx £100 each ( trade ), and £80 tank of diesel. Gives you a nice warm feeling when you've walked away having a gain..... I always go for something, anything at all in a deal because I know the Dealership will never lose anyway. Enjoy your new purchase Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
