Crack in dashboard around passenger airbag

Jumped out of the car today and noticed on the passenger side (right hand side) the corner around the bottom right of the air bag seems to show a visible crack from the rest of the dashboard.
Is this something to worry about? Potential fixes?

A cosmetic issue - only realistic fix is to replace the entire dash top. 07MY RRS TDV6

Ouch. That is guaranteed to not be a cheap job.

Cosmetically it will stay as it is then.

But a dash mat over the dash top - they look OK and will hide the crack. You obviously have the opposite issue I have in Australia where it is high UV and very high internal temps crack the dash where I guess in winter you have the opposite very cold temps making the dash material brittle causing the cracks. 07MY RRS TDV6

Good tip. thanks. Yes, usually it would be extreme cold and hot int he summer although so far we've had a brief spell of -20 and as that breezed by we're now up to +4. There's more snow in the sahara than in Finland (southern) right now.

cheers

Has yours cracked Garry?

Mine hasn't yet, but for the last year I have been able to see the outline of the airbag as a slight indentation in the dash. My driver's airbag cover has also warped upwards a bit, which I know they all do eventually.

I use one of those reflective sun shields in the windscreen if I'm parking for more than a couple of hours. On a hot day, the dash is too hot to touch without it. I'm hoping that will save it for a bit longer, then it will be a dashmat I guess.

My mate's 05 Toyota Prado has the worst dash I've ever seen. Spider web of cracks all through it!

In contrast my Audi A4, which I hardly even bother using a sun shield in and is 7 years older than the RRS, dash looks perfect still... MY08 RRS TDV6, Chawton/Black, sunroof, hk, 268k km

Garry,
I have a crack in my dashtop. I have been interested in a dash mat for the same reasons you have pointed out.
Do LR have one ? or does anyone know what else might fit??? 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

My dash has not cracked but the square bit in the centre up near the windscreen that has the sensor dome in it has but is not an issue.

I have had a dash mat for just under 6 years - bought on ebay, fits well, has not faded and looks great,

The Aspen interior is still lovely to look at even after all these years................ My 1st RRS had exactly the same parchment and Aspen interior. Mine had the Light Cherrywood hockey sticks and door trim, pity is wasn't more popular (or maybe not so unfortunate!) My exterior colour was also one of the less common shades like your Arctic Frost - mine was Giverny Green

Yes - Aspen is pleasant on the eye but the cream gets dirty very quick and is hard to clean but has worn well even with a lot of scrubbing. 07MY RRS TDV6

Thanks Garry,
I will check out e-bay to see if they are still around.
I did go to several Auto stores, but no luck not even order in. Although I did see a VE Commodore parked at one and the dash seemed similiar. So being forward ,inside the store I asked could I try one. (This is before your post).
If anyone can't get the real thing one of these will do the trick. Its not quite as long but that allows the side vents not to be covered up. It was one from Supercheap and came with positioning tape which will hold it in place okay. 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

Garry,
I got the ebay one delivered the other day. Question is it has slits for the air bag release but whats the story with the 'sensor' dome in the middle of the dash. Question 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.
