I've owned 4 x Mercedes estates and now have a GLE SUV over 20 plus years. I only had one front spring went in the alps and Mercedes outside of warranty put us up in a hotel, took the car to be fixed all free except for the actual repair. Contrary to a FL2 which was fine and RRS 2011 HSE had an oil leak £2,500, Car electrics locked down in France last year and we were without the car for 6 weeks as the local LR Dealer kept messing the ecu another £1,000 at that point I went back to Merc. Current Merc GLE 3.5d 2016 model, 2011 RRS HSE standard Previous 2012 FL2 liked but boot too small Previous to LR's 3 x Merc E320 estates - fantastic load carriers and long distance cruisers, ultra reliable. Only changed as needed a 4x4 high tow vehicle. Did have a 1955 early LR drop down windscreen and fuel tank under the drivers seat; again very reliable and super rugged. |

The only place I would buy a second hand RRS or any other topend motor would be a main dealer with a 2 year warranty,then trade in when 2 year old or extend the warranty,I'm on my 5 RRS plus a few RangeRovers before these & ive never spent a penny on repairs & to be honest I've only had 2 issues with the sports,1st being a parkbrake problem on a 2008 TDV8 & a suspension issue on a 2012 sdv6 & both problems were sorted under warranty.If you can't afford to run one don't buy one.

Still on my first RRS – MY08 TDV6. 263,000km no major problems. Had it since 150k. I’ve lost a lot in depreciation so I won’t be selling it any time soon!

I agree with you RRSTV8. The problem is often that the dealership is fixing something but destroying something else.this is particularly thre whenever a full body lift is necessary, These cars are very complex and most mechanics do not have the needed understanding and supervision. I have noticed this many times and I often try to coach mechanics myself with the right working attitude and i.e simple things like using the right torque settings! The problem is that everything is commercialized and for every job the exact time is calculated, But finishing a job within that time is often impossible, so rushing is the result. This is also true btw for most German cars. My experience with company cars is that a Toyota Landcruiser is the strongest and most reliable. but I find them pretty boring. you also need a bit of luck. my reliable 2011 3.0TDV6 broke down at 120K with engine crankshaft failure. LR provided my with a new engine after I escalated the issue to the JLR management. |

Japanese and Korean made cars can also be a nightmare when things do go wrong, often there is also a very long wait for spares to arrive from the Orient too with 5-6 weeks transit time by sea (Japanese and Korean car makers don't seem to have learned about courier services either so you end up waiting for ships to make the passage from Far East to Europe). They also seem to have short lifespan for their designs making some parts obsolete in 5-6 years unlike European makers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
