wading :)

Hello all. Although a member not quiet an owner. Waiting for my car to sell and buying a rrs sdv6.
Looking to do some light off roading and quiet fancy the possibility of wading, seems very fun. But came across this picture which I thought could be useful to some people, but mainly for the fact that a rrs has a higher wading depth then a defender...... Excuse me? Am I correct in thinking that the main reason for this is the defenders door seals lets water in and rrs doesn't?[/quote]

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

That poster is a little bit out of date as wading depends which MY of RRS and FFRR. I have a 1996 TDi 300 Defender and an L494 RRS2 and the RRS2's intakes are on the wing top just under the clamshell of the bonnet so with off-road height selected I have 1m wading whereas my 1996 Def has a lot more with extended axle breather, bell housing plugs in and it's Snorkel (it isn't the LR Raised intake which isn't water tight!) BUT normally I wouldn't take the 90 deeper than intake depth which for my 90 is 50cm. L320 RRS (I've have also had 2 of them and offloaded both quite heavily) has the same 50cm as my Defender as the intake is on the wing side - also the RRS OEM Raised intake cannot be used for deep wading as it also is not watertight out of the box, you have to put your own seals into it (and hope they are watertight!). The other problem with pre Puma Defenders is the under windscreen vent system and the ventilation holes around the battery box under the front passenger seat which all let in loads of water......... BTW both my Evoques also had as much wading depth as my 90. The 2 x FFRR's I had both had 50cm wading but L405 has 1.0m like RRS. I believe DiscoSport has 75cm but need to check that. Disco5 has 1m as well.

It is almost as it left the factory and has standard suspension and Zu lightweight 16" alloy wheels and BFG MTRs 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm getting a 2012 sdv6. Old shape but face lifted I believe.
What's the wading depth do you know, completely standard? And will I get wet feet at this depth like my friends 90 ?

Hi,
its more important to keep water out of the Engine, Gearbox, Axles and Electrics than keeping the carpets dry Thumbs Up

Wheel centres is a good guide Whistle we were running 235.85.16's so just over 600mm while crossing and bonnet dipped under when we went in

On a more serious note it also proved its self during the floods of 2007/2008 when we needed to ford a road helping out in our village and a small bow wave was lipping the top of the bonnet, concerned if any man hole covers had been lifted Shocked the carpets did need to come out after to be dried

600 mm standard height, 700 mm off road height. I don't think you get wet feet if the door seals are good and in any case you'd have a bow wave that would reduce water around the doors, I think. (Not waded more than 100 mm myself!) L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

So what are peoples recommended things to do and protect so I can go full wheel deep, without having any major issues apart from drying out my feet.

IIRC LR have moved things on a bit since they designed the Defender watertightness which hasn't changed much since 1948! I have not had any issues with deeper wading in either of my L320 RRS's or the L494 I run at the moment BUT I certainly wouldn't take them to full wheel height depths of water unless it was an emergency. Is it your intent to run the car as a purely off-road toy with no normal use, as you may well be the first owner here to have an RRS for wrecking during off-road play? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Depends how far you want to go with it!

You can fully seal raised air intake, enclose the ECU behind the battery in a water tight container. But ultimately if your in that deep you will go into super extended height on the suspension and probably be floating by that point!! If it was a pure off road toy id buy a defender to be honest!
I want a decent car that's nice to take the family out but something I can have fun in.
I'm only really looking at mild off roading and some good wading (looks so much fun)
Maybe I'm not being realistic and full wheel height might be deeper then I'm thinking!

Judging by the photo I posted at the top, which is meant to be for standard vehicles. The range rover has the wheels covered?
