Another tyre question, grateful for assistance.

Finally got my winter wheels sorted (Thanks David aka myfirstrrs), 19” 15-spoke style 5 alloys fitted with Michelin Lattitude winter tyres, 255/50 R19.

Whilst the tyres fitted are in good order, I was thinking of putting something a bit more rugged on... purely for asthetics and for those random winter days we get...

I had in mind the following in order of preference of appearance, but would appreciate input for usefulness, noise, wet grip, general road use and of course any other relevant comments; (all below would be 255/55/19)

Goodyear Wrangler Duratec 111Q
Cooper Zeon LTZ
Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme

Or stick with what is on?

A Q rating seems alittle low to me but I think they are great tyres, look the part and winter rated. Superb offroad too. Have yet to try them in snow though so cant comment on that.

Used Wintrax Extreme in same size for two Alps trips and they were fantastic but got fed up of having to change wheels so i went for a tyre that can handle all situations, more offroad biased but i spend alot of time there.

I guess it really depends what you do with the car but Duratracs are noisier than road tyres but no worse than All Terrain tyres

as said depends what you want them for

I have just took off ATR's (general use and bit of greenlining) and put on Wintracs, if you want full winter spec tyres look for the snowflake on them ISTR work best 7degrees or below

did not think the other two types are winter spec but all terrain

But let me know if you are going to bin the Lattitudes

winter tyres work best with more than 3-4mm all to do with the silica content

The new General Grabber AT3 is a 50/50 all terrain tyre with winter rating (mountain snowflake symbol). They're still new and thus a touch pricey but available as 255/55/19 with H speed rating (130mph).  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The change in feel having put the winter wheels on is fantastic, so much less harsh than the 20" rims with low profiles.

I will run the Lattitudes for now and see if there are any offers in the near future for any of the brands mentioned.

Most of the time I am on the road, averaging about 25k miles a year. i do the odd bit of fishing which involves being off road so its nice to have the capability when needed... but I'm not off road every week.

While I decide I think i'll get the summer wheels refurbished

Just bought some of these this morning from AJS - came it at the same price as the Grabber AT (1) but only because the manufacturer cocked up the pricing They might still have them at that price if you're quick.

First impressions are good - very quiet and feel much smoother than the road tyres that I've replaced them with. Almost like having a new car.

i had michellin cross climates on my saloon car, 3 peak rating for snow, but never got round to testing them, shame they dont do them for 4 x 4 as they were classed as all season tyres

Seems like the Grabber AT3 could be exactly what I'm looking for as well. I've been struggling until now. Either I had to fit Grabbers (good in mud but useless in winter conditions), or fit my Vredesteins which are great in winter conditions but useless in mud.
