4.2 Supercharged Exhaust Question

Hi all

Was thinking of removing just the exhaust back boxes and replacing them with a straight through pipe to bring out some more sound, by doing this would the car lose/improve on power? Has anyone on here done this mod and if so how did it sound?

Magnaflow do an exhaust setup with the X pipe but looking at the picture they have removed the back boxes and replaced with a straight through Rolling Eyes

Dont want the car to sound like a boy racer car Rolling with laughter

Will be pleased to hear the V8 burble Mr. Green

It's a single box as in the pic but can't remember if there's an x pipe, pretty sure there isnt and it's two separate pipes running into the box.

I bought it off a friend so it cost about a quarter of new

May help anyone who hasn't seen what they're exhaust looks like off ! Removed it to replace rear brake pipes. Shows the 2 bolt flange and slip on pipes onto front section.

So its a single box in the middle and 2 straight pipes all the way to the tips?

Must sound awesome Thumbs Up

Are both boxes in the middle necessary or is the oval pear funny shaped one after the centre box just to quieten the sweet sounds of the V8 Rolling with laughter

The first box is the swirl chamber where the gasses are balanced. The 'snail shell' is the resonator that eliminates most of the bass from the exhaust note. The rear cans control the volume.

I've been trying to get into my local garage to get the snail shell removed and a couple of straight through pipes put in it's place. Not much luck though as he's booked up. Bodsy has previously posted a couple of video clips from his v6 disco 3 before and after the snail was removed. Apparently removing the snail makes a massive difference. Obviously it's quite difficult to guage just how much difference it makes based on a recording done on a phone.

So while im at the exhaust centre and to get a nice growl from my supercharged V8 would you say get rid of the snail shell resonator (the odd looking box) and both back boxes, so straight through pipe from centre box to both tips?

Wow that V8 would definitely start to growl Laughing

Id love the growl on low speeds but do you think it might be too loud on motorway/high speed? And im guessing it may improve a little power? or am I wrong to assume and will lose power? RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED

Nice one spanner that would be great Thumbs Up

Is your RRS also have a Supercharged V8 4.2/5.0? Hows the sound of your car now on motorway speeds? And did u experience any improvement on power after fitting your exhaust? RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED

Yes, mines a 4.2 S/C. To me it's fine at motorway speeds, not intrusive at all when you're cruising, just barks a bit when you put your foot down. I felt that there was a slight increase in power but that may be due to me driving it harder because I love the exhaust note Laughing

Here's a link to the same exhaust on YouTube. I don't think it quite does it justice but it gives you the idea. Not sure if it'll work as first time posting a link! If not just search range rover sport Magnaflow Thumbs Up

How did you get on? I've just had the resonator and the back boxes removed. Sounds absolutely glorious, but silent when keeping a steady speed. My favourite noise is when in sport mode, if you're slowing down, and the gear drops, there's a lovely V8 crackling noise.

Anyone know the purpose for the X piece? I've seen it mentioned a few times, and I don't have one on mine. Should I have this installed? 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged
