United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
USB charger install

After several trips to london and having lost my charger that connects to the lighter, I now wonder if there is a way to connect a usb charger to the centre console? Looking at the centre console there are a couple of blanks where a usb module would fit. I have googled and found nothing for the range rover sport. I know that there is something [pre-historic Whistle ] in the fridge flap, yet I don't want to have to open this to have to get to a charger. Any help/suggestions much appreciated.
I have read about plugging in a usb adaptor to the lighter. this will work, however I was hoping for a more permanent solution that would leave the lighter slot free.
Thanks Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Not seen anything on here, or much on D3 forum, but you could fit something like this to the ciggy lighter socket? ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks chaps. That's an interesting twist Guy, I didn't realist that there was a lighter in the rear. The question beckons, do I want to drill a hole in one of the blanks by the heating control and install this adaptor, or plug in into the rear lighter.
Guy, the adaptor that you have, is it the same output for both USB ports, or it is similar to the one bean counter posted? My preference is for both of them to be the same output to charge a mobile device. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Beancounter what's the difference between 1a and 2.1a? I am clueless hence if I stepped into a car and was faced with this charger I wouldnt know which port to use. Thanks. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Tanloverluke,

1A and 2.1A refer to the Ampage of the USB charger. Both runUSB sockets will run at 5VDC. 2.1A is for tablets and I think Apple products.

I think mine runs up to 3.1A total but can be split 2.1A and 1A, some are rated higher at 2.1A and 2.1A each, so total 4.2A at 5VDC.

You can't install in the blanks by the heater controls or stereo as there are PCB (Printed Circuit Boards) behind the fascias. The only option up front are as BC said to replace the existing lighter socket. Alternatively you could mount it in a completely random position like on the side of the center console pointing into the 'foot well'of the passenger seat.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Both will charge an iphone for example, but the 2.1 will do it quicker, also would be the one you'd use for iPad's etc, though they would usually draw even more.

I'm sure there are variants on this model which would supply higher A output, just need to do a bit of investigation. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

This is what I did, fitted it in Glove box and connected to fuse box via a rocker switch so can switch in on and off as needed and phone can be left on charge out of site.

many thanks for the input! I'm currently looking for a usb adaptor that can be hard wired into the front of the car, however for the rear I'll go for the cigarette lighter route as suggested. I hope to post some pics along the way. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Here are two options for you:

Fixed install:
https://powerwerx.com/panel-mount-dual-usb...igh-output

This gives 2x 5VDC 2.1A

Cigarette lighter (can be made permanent if you're handy):
https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-USBC242M-Ch...B00E1UWA4O

This gives 2x 5VDC 2.4A

I'd go with the fixed install in the glove box like Col if I did it again.

Cheers

Thanks chaps, much appreciated. I ordered a flush mounted USB charger from Powerful this morning:

http://www.powerfuluk.com/12v-usb-caravan-...l-usb.html

Should arrive early next week which will give me enough time to have it wired by the weekend. Just got to look for the soldering iron now Thumbs Up Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
