damp smell after raining

can anyone help me out. After it has been raining heavy or i have washed my car I get a damp/musty smell in the care even before I switch on the engine. I have read comments about the A/C causing this type of smell but I smell it as soon as i open the door.

I have checked all the carpets and there is no damp patches so I am at a loss as to where the smell may be coming from, so appreciate any pointers you guys can give

cheers
Peter

Have you recently passed through Calais?

After you have checked for the absence of migrants and spaniels maybe double check the carpets; they may be dry on the surface but there are thick layers of felt underneath that can hold large volumes of water. Known sources of leaks are the sunroof drains, front A pillar clips and a poorly fitted plenum chamber cover.

If you are sure the carpets and felt are dry try using an air conditioning 'bomb' to sterilise the air con plumbing.

Sorry - it is the black plastic thing at the lower edge of the windscreen and through which the wiper arm spindles protrude. There are clips that hold it tight against the windscreen but if some of these are broken or not pushed fully home then water gets in behind the cover, drips into the air intake for the ventilation system and finds its way to the cabin filter and into the passenger footwell. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

hi everyone,
i thought that this smell had went for good as last year it just disappeared, but it has reappeared again. I think it may be a problem that i saw in another thread where the sunroof may be the problem, as I tried the drains from the sun roof and they were fine. Would anyone be able to tell me if the problem was the sunroof would it be covered under Land Rover's extended warranty?

thanks in advance

Hi

I once had the same issue on my last RR, also was getting water on the lower door seal. Turned out to the windscreen, had been replaced previously, and not correctly sealed. Got it replaced in the end.

I also had this recently- took in to my Indy and they cleaned out both sunroof drain pipes- about £35, fixed.

thanks for the response guys.

i had previously put the hose on it working up the car and it does seem to be coming from the sunroof. I opened the sunroof and poured water down all the drain holes and it seemed to flow through without a problem. Do you think although the water runs through that the problem could still be the drains?

I also cant find any signs of damp in the car, but the damp smell is pretty strong when you jump in the car after a heavy shower

It could also be the sunroof seal.
