It's quicker! Plus these digi cameras don't tend to have direct downloads. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yes you can shmoogle. But there are advantages to a card reader:

1- Faster!
2- Doesn't drain the camera's battery
3- Security: if your batt dies in the middle of a transfer you lose some of the pics.

4- Most importantly....it's dirt cheap Very Happy

Jay,

I use a card reader in the office - just leave it plugged in all the time and saves me using a USB cable - just pull the SD card from the Camera and plug it in - it is quite handy IMO

Neither do I mate, it was a genuine question. I don't know why you'd take the CF card out of your camera to get the photos off, when you might as well leave it in there and connect the camera directly....

Is it really faster? It's a USB or Firewire device, the same as the camera, no? USB bus is the same regardless, surely?

There are good card and there are cheap cards. I wouldn't use anything but Lexar cards, they are quick to write and stable. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Are you sure VA?

Lexars are so bad that in order for me to avoid/remember them I use word association. Remember Egyptian pyramids? well, some of them were in Luxor. Get it?

Very bad cards, avoid them if you can.

To have an idea of a card's speed have a look here:

Choose your camera model from the drop down menu above.

I'd have to agree with VA on the card choice. I've been using only Lexar for a few years now and never had any issues. Used them in hot places, cold places, dusty places, and on Nikon, Ricoh and PhaseOne digital kit - no problems.

Just my penneth !
