Waxoyl Coating underside of Sport.

Hi Lads

Just wondering if anyone can help, I was looking to get the Sport Waxoyl'd and if anyone could recommend somewhere in the Central Scotland area who would carry this out . I am a bit wary about getting it done with all the electrics and that which are on the underside and what could happen if they were hit by the Waxoyl.

Would therefore rather take it to someone who has carried out this work before and could be recommended. Thought about doing it myself but would need some help on what not to hit with Waxoyl.

Spoke to Gemm 4x4 who have done many Defenders but as yet no Sports or Disco 3's

Cheers Jock Thumbs Up

Summer coming up I was thinking of doing this task myself on my sport its coming up to 10 years old and showing signs of age in places. Doing some research on various forums people suggest the dinatrol range over the hammerite waxoyl brand. Their arguments the dinatrol range has better range of slighty different products for different applications eg. inside chassis out side etc. Anyone else with any advise on here used either of these products?

So maybe also worth asking what product you want to apply not just the blanket "waxoyl" brand.

These guys quote centres in Scotland and experience of discos etc. not giving recomentation for them mind.

I wax oiled mine in about a hour,,I don't know where they get 440 from,I bought a gallon of wax oil from local motorist shop for about 25 & I did my new navara pickup last March when I bought it new & ive also done my 2012 RRS & ive still got over half a gallon left as it goes a long way & I sprayed it on & gave both vehicles 2 coats.Bring your vehicle to Bridlington & I'll do it for 100.

I am interested in this subject of wax oiling the chassis. Have any of you got before and after pictures of your chassis.

My chassis is mint and just would love to protect it now as I have just got my first 62 Range Rover sport.

Certainly will be doing it myself that way I know it's done correctly Very Happy

2.5 litres of Waxoyl, to do 2 coats on 2 cars? Doesn't seem like a lot... Shocked

I was thinking that myself !

I don't know if I should do my chassis with black or clear what do you guys think ?
My 62 plate sport has covered 27k and the chassis is in mint condition. So maybe clear.

Do the sports suffer much with rust ? Has anybody who has the the first models which came out in 05 have you carried any welding out in them ?

I'm sure they are not like the D2 chassis which was made of cheese !!! Shame really as they were and some still are good trucks.

ISTR using around 12-13 litres on a typical Defender, and 4-5 litres just sealing the seam/sills on my own car...

It took a couple of gallons to do my last car (Rover 75 Tourer), without sounding off, the amount stated doesn't sound enough to cover one vehicle if all the nooks and crannies are done to. I was allowed to watch the preparation etc and the spraying being done at the specialist at the time. Wink John

I have the clear wax oil but was hard to see where was done & where wasn't so I added a bit of old engine oil to make it black.when you spray it on it does go a long way & I did all the underside of mine.

I seem to remember reading a horror story over on Disco 3 with a guy that had it done and seemingly it was abit of a cowboy job. There was Wax oil everywhere and I do mean everywhere! I'm sure the thread and pics will be over there with a search.

They even ended up spraying all the shocks, calipers and even the inside of his Alloys and Tyres where they didn't bother to mask anything up and were very liberal with the application Shocked And this was supposed to be a professional company that advertised in LRO magazine Whistle 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

This was the extent of my Waxoyling, both sills and all seams on the body, and a few rough bits on the chassis, and used over 4 litres...

I recently, two weeks ago did the underside of ours. The other half had started it before he had fitted the side steps so I ended up covered in it eventually. So top tip, if doing yourself wear overalls or old clothes cause it can get messy especially if using the black stuff. Three boil washes and it's almost out of my hoodie.

Glad it's done though and was very satisfying too Thumbs Up
