The best player's car in the Championship.... Rolling with laughter

But then, after my team lost to them last weekend, I'm hardly in a position to laugh too much!

Hi Everyone! I am a new member of the forum and looking forward to chatting with many of you. DaveW recommended I join as I have been bothering him with many SVR related questions!

A little about myself, I am from the US, have had 4 LR's in the last four years starting with an 11' Range Rover Sport that I loved, but once we had a kid the rear facing car seat basically pushed my wife up against the dashboard, so in 2013 I bought a full size HSE and six months later upgraded to a 2014 HSE SC, and then just this past November bought a SVR. So I've been through a lot. Lots of love for my dealer, and the brand with just a few hiccups along the way.

Nonetheless, I am excited to contribute as I plan to be here for the next few months until the new Disco comes out! But in the meantime am trying to get the most out of my SVR!

First question, does anyone know if the SVR has launch control??

Best,

Jeff

Hi Jeff and welcome to the madhouse that is the SVR part of the forum.

To answer your question, no the SVR doesn't have launch control. It does have a slightly different torque map to the other cars which allows it to launch harder anyway.

Thanks DaveW and Phil! Much appreciated! Loving the thread! It would be great if we had an SVR photo thread somewhere, no?

If you search through the forum, you'll find a good few SVR threads with numerous photos. Phil in particular has posted some epic posts

Can't wait to see your post! I am excited for you!

Also, technical question for those out there. I am not sure if you guys have this in the states, but we have a company called K&N and they make air filters. I was thinking of adding them to my SVR but they don't make a specific model for SVR. Are the air filters on a SVR the same as SC or ATB?

Thanks

Jeff

Whatever the answer to the fit question - be aware that the oil used on K&N filters can contaminate the mass air flow sensors on EFI vehicles.

Some tests I have seen (sorry can't find them now) suggested that airflow through a K&N as not significantly higher than through a "normal" paper one, the USP for the K&N was the ability to wash out, re oil and reuse pretty much for ever. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Jeff,
As someone who spent 11 years in JLR Engine Development before moving to SVO, I can confidently tell you that there would be no benefit of fitting a K&N panel filter.

As well as the oil mist duly noted, the airflow though their filter might be slightly different in direction and how it then moves across the MAF at low speed which might (as in Might) affect low speed airflow calibration.
As good as K&N are, they're only really interested in realising higher flow figures at the top end of the scale for improved power. At best you may see 1-2 bhp at that level and I can guarantee you won't feel that.
We however spent four years developing the AJ133 engine and its associated systems. As long as you change the filters at the recommended services, you'll see no difference.
