2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

jacking up a rrs

so i had a flat tire over the weekend, and when trying to put on the spare tire, i noticed it was very hard to get the car jacked up correctly.
i have a MY06 and from what i have heard, the jack that comes with the car is very unreliable. when i was jacking up, all that was happening was the suspension was lifting. I then set the car to the highest access height possible and tried again. Still no luck as the suspension just dropped slowly on its own.

The only way i could manage was to use multiple jacks on the back of the car and also one on the driveshaft.

Was i doing anything wrong? or are these cars notorious for difficult wheel changes?

You just have to keep jacking away.

Not to sure but wouldn't think to advisable to be jacking on the driveshaft.

Best bet is a 3T trolley jack on a chassis member or a 2T trolley jack on a wish bone (but not the drive shaft)
If you are jacking on the chassis the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch is around 18 inches before the wheel leaves the ground Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk

I've heard mention of leaving the boot open while jacking to avoid the suspension resetting itself as you hack. I did although one wheel did lower itself during the process

The best way to stop the suspension altering while it's in the air is to use axles stands Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk

This is a (sort of) myth that's developed from a slight misunderstanding. Opening a door (not the taligate though) will prevent the ride height change, however, it does not stop the suspension self-levelling.

I think some of that may backdate to the day's of the P38 at least, because I'm sure it said in the Drivers Handbook to open the tailgate to stop suspension lowering.

I've just been looking at bottle jacks and, unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't look as if they would lift anything like high enough. Most seem to have a maximum height of around 350-400mm and give a lift of just 150mm or so. Does a bottle jack really work?

I just got one for a freind from a Merc Sprinter, small enough and two stage so should do the job and fit in the boot fine. Lot of Landcruisers now sold

Yep; being telescopic, there's more than enough height and the screw can be extended to reach the chassis before you've even started jacking. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
