Stop/start button

I want to change the stop start button on my Santori Black RRS my12 for an illuminated version on sale on EBay.
Has anyone ever done this and how easy is it to get at/remove the button?

Just a quick note, my Sept 12 RRS HSE Luxury has a backlit stop start button. The backlight is red. 2015 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic SDV6

Hi and thanks for your reply and confirmation that you have done exactly what I want to do.

Question is where did you source the backlit, red stop/start button and how did to get to the old one for removal?

Your help would be very appreciated.

Mine is also a Sep 2012 Sport!

Regards

Michael

Slightly confused here if you have a Sept 2012 car it should already have a illuminated in Red stop/start button, also you say it's a TDV8 but I thought they dropped the TDV8 engine in 2010/11.

Cheers

No! Mine is an SDV6 not a TDV6 and it does not have an illuminated stop/start button. I am however mistaken about the ref date. Mine is Jun '12

I test drove a MY15 Sport last week and it hadn't got one either!

Could it possibly be that whoever you bought your car from retro-fitted it?

Regards

Michael

Hi

Your avatar on the left hand side has your car as a TDV8. L/R only list one Start/Stop switch for the 10/13 Sport from
Vin. AA000001 on. Pt/No. LR014015

You would need to check the connector on the rear of that switch to make sure it is compatible with the plug on your harness.

Original Switch

Confirm what Col said, in that my RRS had a factory fitted red back light to the stop/start button. 2015 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic SDV6

Now it's my turn to be confused.

I've identified part no. LR014015 and it is a stop start button.
However it is NOT red nor illuminated. It's just as fitted to my MY12 RRS Sport (black).

Nevertheless two of you confirm that MY12 RRS are fitted with illuminated stop start buttons!

Can anyone shed light on this please?

I replaced my Stop/Start Button recently due to the lettering being worn, and replaced it with LR014015 and can assure you when the lights are turned on the lettering is illuminated Red. The Switch it's self is not Red but Black and Noble.

Thanks for that clarification! That seems to nail it so far as illumination is concerned.

I'd still really like a full on RED button as in photo! I can't believe that it can be a major issue to fit it even though it isn't a LR part with a matching connector. An adaptation would seem possible! It's just a contact switch after all!

I am not a Auto Electrician but it also act's as the Ignition Switch should you not want to start the car, so the Switch has three function, Ignition, Start and Stop which I assume are somehow controlled by a ECU on the car so I don't think it will be as simple as splicing a few wires.

As I said I am not a Auto Electrician though, so it maybe as simple as that. Should you have a L/R warranty on the car I would imagine it would certainly invalidate that if you modify the wiring.

Cheers

Hi Col

The price (£21) of the LR OEM push button switch suggests that it has no built-in intelligence.

Are you able to send over a photo of the switch whilst illuminated?

Meanwhile I shall keep you informed of any progress.

BTW I have taken out a LR extended warranty but not had cause to call upon it as yet, Has anyone any experience in that connection?

Regards

Michael

Hi,

Just my 10p's worth.

Both my 13.5MY HSE Black and SWMBO's 14MY Disco HSE have the same stop start button.

It's black/ white normally and lights up red/ black when you switch the headlights on.
