I had mine checked a couple of weeks ago. It was all checked in Peter Vardy Land Rover Aberdeen and I was told everything is fine and was given a new spec sheet to place in the manual. The removable towbar nose weight has now been changed. I think the nose weight is lowered to 150kg or something like that.

I've just bought myself a 2010 RRS and in the process of many hours internet searching I stumbled across Topix. Lacking the VIN number of any car I might actually want to buy I entered the VIN of my wife's Disco 3. First thing that pops up was the recall. I didn't pay too much attention, but SWMBO goes into full panic mode and wangled herself an emergency appointment at the local LR dealer. We do use the tow bar every week or so to tow a horse box which obviously transports the most important male in her life. Anyway, it took the dealer an hour to get the tow bar off and then the service wallah eternal ashen faced and tells my wife that she shouldn't even think of towing until the work has been done. He confiscated the detachable tow bar and the car is now spending three days having the cross member replaced! All FOC, obviously. Anyway, do take the recall seriously, but if you don't use the tow bar very often then you will probably be OK. Probably ....... |

Australian vehicles are rated to tow 3500kg with a nose weight of 350kg. The UK goose neck type tow bars are not legal here. All our bars are a receiver that plugs up into the rear cross member with that stupid key system but the actual tow bar is inserted into the receiver.

I've got the removable one with a key. I have no key and it is rusted in place. What will they do if I send mine in? Don't want a big daft ugly thing fitted, will they just remove it altogether if asked? Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

It didn't occur to us to take the key to the garage, and they never asked for it, so I assume the can sort it without they key. Or, they have a set of master keys. I presume you can opt to go without the heavy duty tow bar, but if your tow bar has been in place as long as it has then I'd reckon there is a decent chance you will have some corrosion of the cross member and need to get it checked. |

I've not had a recall letter yet so am I likely to get one? I cannot remove the tow bar so hope to get a recall so LR can do it for me. |

Assuming your vehicle is potentially affected then I'm sure you will eventually get one. They get the address details via the DVLA. I also suspect they have staggered the letters so the dealerships can cope. No reason why can't just call the dealership and book in for the check. |
