Air Conditioning Condener - price to replace?

Hello,

Has anyone an idea of price to replace the air con condensor on a 2007 RRS S/C 4.2 petrol?

Is it a big job? Part price? Man hours?

Many thanks,
Simon

i think the 7p charge must be for refrigerant ( gas ) to recharge the system, AC systems are rated by weight of refrigerant 2010 RRS, TDV8

The first post asks about condenser change and the quote is for a compressor change. Which is it? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

My local independent garage have just quoted:

Parts: £426.94 +VAT
Labour £385.00 +VAT

Total £974.33

______________________________________________

Can you tell me where the air con condenser is located?

Is it likely to have been hit by a stone - is it that accessible to objects like that?

I'm trying to get it done on my warranty but Warranty Direct are insisting on seeing photographs first before authorising.

My garage has said that its not possible to take photographs due to having to almost strip the whole front end of the car away.

It's chicken and egg situation and driving me mad. So far as Im concerned its a failed component.

So I'm trying to see if I can take photos myself...but to me the whole underside seems well protected with floor guards/plates so no stone could get into the engine bay.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Simon

I think a stone would be the least likely to cause damage, the condenser is basically built the same as a radiator, it will suffer from age, corrosion and also vibration issues which can cause fractures in the welded seams / joints. These are normally not visible to the naked eye unless its had some obvious physical damage, only way to test them is to pressure test, normally with nitrogen and use a soapy solution to check all joints. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Hi,

I queried the dealer quote as she's put compressor and it's the condenser, she's now come back with:

The cost quote for the Air Conditioning Condenser is - £ 465.38 (Inc. parts, Labour & VAT).

So, this now is compared to the £974.00 quote from my independent garage - bizarre!!

How can this be?
