Advice needed

Very new to the forum and have spent all of last night reading what has been posted.

I'm looking to swap my Navara for a Range and have been looking for a while at specs, years and mileage etc.

I've had a dealer call me with one due in next week.
2008 RRS HSE 2.7
71K with full service history etc.
Rear entertainment

He is listing it at £18,995
Any comments and "what to look for" appreciated.

Nathan

hi mate.

If you use the search facility there is a guide listed somewhere. if i knew where i would post you a link but unsure at the moment. i printed it off before viewing mine. it was basically an entire check list. someone may be along to point you to it.
one of the things id did straight away was check the suspension raises and lowers smoothley and quietly

Hi Nathan. Do your research on price..then you'll know whether the price is fair. Then check:

1 - Front suspension knocking on a bumpy road - bushes are a common wearing part on these
2 - Check when/if alternator replaced. If not get it checked with an electric gizmo. £800 if it goes pop
3 - Suspension raising & lowering as Crammy says
4 - Gearbox not juddering
5 - All buttons on steering wheel do what their supposed to
6 - Seats operating okay
7 - Timing belts have been changed at the right time
8 - See on the service records if any wheel bearings changed

Lastly, only buy with a full service history, preferably Land Rover. Oh, and if you buy, get a warranty (Warranty Direct get good reviews on here, & I'm with them).

Good luck! Thumbs Up

For the TDV6 it is absolutely vital that the oil pump has been changed. Please have a good read here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic57636.html (If you're not aware, the D3 and RRS are the same underneath.) Thumbs Up

Shocked Shocked

I would find yourself a good indy if I were you.

A OEM Denso TDV8 alternator from Steve @ Advanced Factors is £210. Is £510 (effectively) a reasonable price to pay on top of that? I don't think so!

It would appear the OP may be looking for a TDV6 anyway, in which case it's only an hour (or two with ACE) to change the alternator. Wink

That's not to say that it's not worth checking the alternator all the same. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

^^^ Wow...It might have been in the £700's but even so, it seems I paid far too much 6 months ago at a LR dealership...mines a TDV8 but cant be that much different to a TDV6 at LR dealership. Oh dear... Confused

The TDV8 is a bit more "involved" (http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...20TDV8.pdf), but not enough to justify that price. Partly, it'll be because the LR have inflated the price of an identical alternator in a LR box to probably over £350, IIRC! Rolling Eyes Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I did consider this 2.7 HSE with a subtle kit but a dealer local to me rang me so thought i would see that range before making a 4 hour drive to Southampton.

Any opinions on this below?

1st thing to do is get the VIN and check it is a genuine HST (you can do a VIN/ Model check on the LR Topixwebsite) and not a tatty car tarted up to look a million$'s. Ask why the interior has had to be changed as LR never fitted Nappa leather to their cars. Check the "Stormer" wheels are genuine and not cheap import copies which could well crack due to the weight of the vehicle the first pot hole you find. As a 2006MY car also if NOT a genuine HST then check that it has had the uprated steering rack has been fitted as without it the bigger 20" wheels will cause premature wear on the steering. The front bumper is not from an HST is looks like it is fromn an Autobiography, the front grille is an HST grille but then I bought one and fitted to my non HST RRS! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The ebay link is not a genuine HST but a kit on HSE.
Good point on the Nappa and wheels
Thanks

Looking at the photos the leather looks like LR original, it's just LR have never claimed that they use "Nappa" leather. To tell the wheels are genuine you have to remove them and look inside the casting for the cast in Land Rover Logo 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
