If it is the oil pump, it will take around 45 mins to strip and check. Failing that, I have seen a few 08s with broken con rods and crankshafts

If this is the case, it would be worth getting in touch with the LR rep on the forum before stripping the car too far. Bottom end issues are not unknown inside of LR, and they released an "improved customer handling experience" for these known issues.

Edit: does the car still run at all, or is the bottom end seized?

Hi Mikey

Had the same with my own car. When the engine was hot, everything seized up. When it was cold, it would turn over fine, and given enough persuasion, it would run...

Oil filter fitted wrong, causing the oil flow through the engine to be affected, and piston started overheating and melting...

Ok
Lee,my mechanic , he said engine turns over then locks. leave it a bit then try again and same it turns over couple of times then locks.
He said he is going to remove sump to see if its crank or if there there are any clues in sump casing.
He has asked for your number so i have seen it on your site maybe he might try to call you for advice.
He is a serious land rover series One owner and and been a mechanic for over 35 years but has never had to do any repairs on a RRS or D 3
Hope its ok to pass your number
regards
kevan

hi Mikey
At last euro-jag have a engine for me,68K, i have decided to take it to an indy garage near me as they seem to be on the ball.
They are all x land rover employes and have quoted a fair price.
They warranted all their work but of coarse they cannot warranted the engine.
Ill let you know how it all goes im missing my RRS as been off the road now since boxing day.

Did you dismantle your engine to see what the fault was?

Not yet but my mechanic took sump off
And he said Crank failure as alloy and brass bits
In sump.
And judging by the noise it made it will be the crank
I'm So upset with LR as they will not look at unless I pay the engine strip charges
Which I cannot afford
So have cut my losses and put a replacement in
