It was sluggish earlier. Do you have any battery charger to try? Or it could be on last legs as you mentioned. Bodsys Brake Bible

I don't have any kit. I'll get Green Flag to start it and then get a new battery sorted.

Given the relatively low use, I'd recommend getting a ctek charger. Either the msx5.0 or 7.0 or 10.0

Agreed on the Ctek. I bought one recently and use it through the towing socket. If you don't have one of those, the Ctek comes with a choice of croc clips and ring connectors anyway so you can leave a quick release lead on the battery and just plug-and-go. You might want to order a Ctek extension lead if, like me, you want to have the Ctek in the garage whilst the vehicle sits outside on charge. It's 2m long and packs away to almost nothing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

In theory yes, but you need a long and steep downhill, need to get it at probably around 60-80 Kph. '08 RRS TDV8 I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil |

Halfords and others do a solar panel charger designed for caravans but works well on cars too. Plugs in to cigar lighter and trickles 0.5 amps which is plenty to keep battery topped up. Plenty on eBay too. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

But you will have to modify the cigar lighter to be always on.

Surprised to hear that, thought they were always disconnected, but nice to know.
