Brake Pad Warning Light

Fitted new front brake pads (Brembo) a few weeks ago, now the brake pad warning light is coming on every now and then! I fitted a new sensor wire the last time I changed the front pads, will I have to do it again……. when the warning light comes on is it the same colour for front and back?

nearly forgot Merry Christmas to all About to get into a sport

It's the same warning light for front and rear, so check the rears, it's also worth checking your fluid level. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

so had a look at the rear pads today they are like new, so now a little stumped to why the 'check brake pads' alert comes on now and again, does that mean because the front pads warning touched you have to change the sensor wire too! About to get into a sport

If the sensor has worn down until the light has come on, it will need replaced.

Seen quite a few where the sensor has fallen out the pad, fouled the wheel and damaged the wiring, also bringing the light on

Sensors are not expensive, so may be worthwhile replacing them as matter of course Thumbs Up

Hi, just bringing back this thread.
I had the warning light coming occassionly, but I knew that the pads were fairly good.
But it started to increase so took off the right rear to have a look. Pads seemed less than half worn, but sensor and wiring were not in place and floating around. (Ha found the problem??)
Its due to go in for a service so as a temporary fix,I got the sensor and wire and taped them up with electrical tape securely out of the way.
Now the light stays on all the time. Why Question What have I done? Any Idea ??? 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

The connection must be broken, so you need a new sensor, or you can chop it and short the wires as a temporary measure to put the light out. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks Lost for Words.
But I thought that the way the sensor works is when the Pads are worn it makes contact with the disc rotor to make the earth connection ? & turn on the light.
If I understand what your saying is that the sensor just completes an earth? circuit. Because mines been floating around it might be damaged and completing the circuit.?? 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

No, it works the other way round. The circuit is normally closed and, when the sensor wears through, it's broken. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Just to let everyone know I put in new rear pads today. It was the sensor wire that was broken.
It must have happened when it came out of its slot and was floating around. The old pads were only half worn.

Interesting there is only a sensor on the right rear, no provision on the left.

It makes sense Rolling Eyes as wear is usually even on both sides at the back. 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.
