Hi, best way to avoid any damage is to take off the rear trim panel completely then you have great access to the switch. Be prepared for a shock at seeing all the rust and crud under there though.

If the tailgate glass won't open with the switch try programming the third button on your remote to open it (see owner's manual for that)

Did you try checking the microswitch for continuity? It is quite common for it to fail as water gets in. A complete replacement unit only costs about £17 from Land Rover so worth a try. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

hi mate

I did try the switch and seems to be working fine, but very corroded, I don't mind replacing the switch if that is the problem?

thanks for your help

Hi, not sure if you mean it looks OK or if you actually checked it with a multimeter. It's quite a big unit but the circuit is controlled by tiny microswitch tucked inside. Definitely worth changing it for the modest cost and if that doesn't fix things then look a bit further? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Easy way to check if its the switch, unplug the switch you will be left with a female connector on the car,get a small piece of wire insert into the connector thus making a circuit,if the glass opens you then know it's the switch.

I changed to switch but still nothing is there a fuse just for it? Or can I test for power anywhere ? Don't forget the glass is closed so not much I can do if I need to open it?

I had this problem too, changed the switch but still didn't work. The third button in my spare key opens it so the powered lock on the main boot side works. Apparently the wiring that goes from the switch, round the window and back round in to the main boot to the lock gets corroded and fails. Looks like I'll have to root a new wire in to fix it, or just live with it! 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE- Cairns Blue with 22" Stormers
