Quick compressor fix question

Stupid really but when I take the compressor off for the refurb does the car have to be in access mode to stop it dropping down suddenly when I disconnect the hoses or car I have it raised up in full 4x4 mode? I'm guessing access.

Anyone have recommendations on which kits to use? I've seen two on ebay, one at £40 and another at £105. Now I don't mind paying the extra but only if its worth it

£40 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Disco...338c8eaf45
£105 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Disco...19f20b49dc

If the corner valves are in good order then it should sit at whatever height it's at - they isolate the individual air bags from the rest of the system. However, you'll want to pull the relevant fuse for the EAS - this will prevent the system trying to level itself downwards.

Axle stands would be a good idea either way... Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Huh yeah first time I tried to jack it up to change the brake wear cable that wheel just rose into the sky for about 5 minutes

So if I take the right fuse out I can do it with the car up in 4x4 mode?

Any recommendations which kit to use too?

Ta

IF you can get the bolts off, then def recommend the full kit. You will be able to change the piston seal and carbon ring without too much difficulty. Problem is with the exhaust spring and rubber plunger, the bolt can become corroded to the case.

If you can live without the car for a few days, take the compressor off, then see if the bolts will undo. If all is ok, order the full kit. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Are the odds pretty good everything will come apart?

If its reasonable I'll take the chance and order the parts.... I don't really want to take the car apart twice

I couldn't see any difference in the included parts of those kits???

Ah hold on, that's a different kit. It fixes the popular crack in the air dryer unit (LR have stopped supplying the dryer on its own for £70 and have superseded the part with the new compressor at £500!!!)

Let me just find the other kit. Bodsys Brake Bible

No can do Im afraid. It means leaving Mrs Dan and the baby without a car for several days. I need to plan around doing it over the weekend.

The same guys who do that do the £105 kit its the same just I might not be able to get the old valve out... which is most likely to not be a problem.... Although its only £40 extra

Presumably Mrs Dan wouldn't be able to use the car whilst the pump was away?

For a few quid you could hire a Fiesta or other small motor to keep the family mobile then you'd buy yourself time to do what's best !

I hear ya but that rebuild is £150+26p&p so now your getting on for half the price of a new replacement.....

£105 sounds much more agreeable as we're not even sure if we're going to keep the car. We're getting tired of it eating £300 worth of fuel ever month just pottering around town...... but we'll probably end up keeping it anyway... as it sounds lush Smile
