Popped in to the dealer on the way home hoping to see it body-off. They're actually changing the turbos with the body on. Had a look and the holes they're trying to get them through looks very tight. I hope they can get them installed properly that way! Was interesting to see the underside with all of the panels off. No obvious leaks anywhere which is good to see.

ISTR the LH turbo can be changed with the body on but I can't recall hearing of changing the RH one without lifting the body. |

anyone kept a count of how many TDv8's have gone bang turbo wise? ..I know "Working Dog" from the ANZ forum

Dealer has informed me that, having put it together and tested it, further errors were thrown up. Apparently the new LH turbo is u/s and is now being replaced with another new turbo. So that will be three turbos they have had to fit. Cost to me is going to a little over £800 (£3000 paid by warranty - third turbo being a "parts warranty" issue and therefore obviously free).

Exactly where I was a year ago after 16000 heart transplant. And why I went for Fulfat which has a better reliability record but not as much fun to own.

Picked up my RRS this afternoon. Advice was to treat it like a new engine for a while to ensure the turbos are "bedded in". Not sure how necessary that is but it was something I had intended to do anyway.

My turbo failed on my 2007 TDV8 , I heard a loud pop followed by loads of black smoke .To cut a long story short I ended up having a fully re-con engine and two re-con turbos !!! the body had to be taken off to do this and the bill came to £8300 inc vat !! ive had the car back a couple of weeks now and its running sweet , but ive got to go easy for the first 1000 miles |

It finally seems to have happened - after months of 'fan-belt squeal' noises from the RHS and yours truly saying to various 'knowledgeable types (mechanics) that the noise must be a turbo, and them saying it wasn't, tonight I pulled out of a service station and my car went pop and lost power. Coasted down a hill, swung into a side road and switched it off. There was a bit of white smelly smoke (oil on exhaust?) and that was that. After trawling the forums again, I'm sure my initial diagnosis is correct and it has blown the RHS turbo. About 12 months ago the RHS EGR failed after LR specialists and the local indy told me the EGRs were fine, leaving me to ponder whether the two issues are related.

TDV8 turbos are usually a body-off job so it needs a suitable ramp. My local dealer did manage to change both body-on first time. A couple of months later the RH turbo failed again. I put it down to them trying to do the job body-on previously. They took the body off to change it the second time. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

It was/is the LH turbo - $4000 later, new turbos supposed to be delivered tomorrow so I expect them next week... still up in the air whether to pull the body off! Any info on how to? Apart from needing a hoist, which I have access to. I haven't pulled the airbox off yet so here's hoping its oil free. in LR we trust |

There is a walk-through, by Disco_Mikey, on disco3 showing how to remove the body. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
