Thinking of getting one, what's the thoughts experience of owning the 2.7 diesel.

Remap is well worth it. Great engine but don't expect it to feel quick after a SC though.

Probably the most important thing to note is the oil pump issue. During 07 and 08 MYs (possibly very late 06 too), a weaker oil pump casing was fitted, which leaves the tendacy for the cam belt tensioner to snap (commonly after the cam belt service). The pump can be replaced with the newer design, so it's not an issue but it's important to know, and factor in the cost of preventitive replacement if need be.

whats to be expected from the remap

You can expect the remap to improve power and torque (typically 35-40hp, 80-90Nm, IIRC) but don't expect to see any improvement in economy from it, as many don't - taking advantage of the extra power instead. It probably would help with economy if you try hard though. An uprated intercooler and de-cat pipe are also nice additions. By far best to blank the EGRs too.

Realistic average MPG is mid 20s.

My TDV6 has afforementioned decat, big intercooler, blanked EGRs, and a performance remap.

Mine will see 26-28mpg in general driving, which is largely unaffected by the map, and will crack 30+mpg on a run, which it had never achieved without the map. But then I didn't have it mapped for economy. I had it mapped for power

I use my TDV6 for cruising and very happy indeed with it. Sometimes I would like a little more power when showing off trying to outpace another guy at the lights/roundabout, but I'm sure a proper remap would do that. A mate of mine with a HST had a remap and said it was like night and day. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

decided to keep big red after having a drive of the tdv6, it was nice as they all are but mrs monty wasnt impressed , bought a little run about due to increase in annual mileage, football has taken over our lives lol so football boots and mud aint goig in big red if i can help it, picked this up for 250 quid, so big red is staying
