You have to go and test drive one and satisfy yourself on whether it has enough power. Everyone has different views for instance if you have just stepped out a a super charged RRS it would probably feel gutless. The only persons opinion that matters is yours |

But I would be careful about driving a TDV8 unless you plan to buy one, they are addictive. It's like going to look at a puppy for sale, you have to buy it when you see what it's like.

Good advice. I shall borrow my mates Citroen C1 when I go for a test drive in the 2.7 - that should hopefully make it feel quicker! |

I've owned both the TDV6 and TDV8 and my only word of advice is whatever you do; don't test drive the TDV8 first because if you do, when it comes to test driving the TDV6 you'll think it's faulty.

Forget the C1 and go in a Sinclair C5 and I can promise you it will feel as quick as a GTR |

Why do you say it would feel faulty? Were you happy with your V6 when you had it though? |

Because the TDV6 is about 80bhp down on the TDV8 which in a circa 2.5 ton 4x4 is very noticeable IMO. Was I happy with the TDV6 at the time? Errr...yes and no; a 4x4 by it's very nature isn't really meant to be a fire breathing supercar but my the same token it needs to be able to hustle when it's needed. Thinking back, there were a few times when the lack of power annoyed me (overtaking on a country lane springs to mind) yet I've never once had the slightest hesitation in the TDV8; I'll see a gap and I'll be confident I can make it. |

I had a 2.7 TDV6. I felt the power was adequate for my general use. Overtaking on single carriageways was the only time I wished it was quicker. I was getting 27-28mpg combined (on the computer) which I thought was really good.

You get 30mpg from a TDV8? What do you do - turn it of going down hills? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Ive just had mine remapped by Superchips and it changes the car totally. Responds better, pulls harder and gives you that confidence when over taking. Highly recomend it. |

I have a 2.7, and I have always had bigger petrol cars usually in the 3-6 litre range (Yanks, Jags and Mercs mostly) over the years by way of comparison to what I consider normal.
Day to day it is OK, once you get to live with the foibles like the jerky gear change at low speeds. Overtaking here and there it sometimes lacks the punch, and on the motorway, sudden acceleration just isn't happening. But you can wind it up slowly and surprise yourself when you see the needle over 100 at times. Personally, I would get a V8 next time. But the 2.7 is not poor enough to consider changing it before time. Fuel economy seems OK (dunno the number but I fill it up less frequently than other stuff I have had). All in all its a positive experience that is only lacking the odd moment here and there. |
