I'll admit the customer services response has so far been disappointing, but I'm sure it will improve with some friendly pressure from the RR community in general!! So get posting and lobbying!

Yeah, you might think that but this is British customer service from a "British" car maker. They've got your money and they don't care... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

In my experience the customer service was superb under BMW and Ford ownership - not been the same since Tata took over but profits have increased so says it all Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

When BMW started using the Push button start...loads where stolen as a result of security flaws in that system...i think they addressed it though after months of denying an inherant problem existed. Gone but not forgotten, 2005 RRS SC first edition, BMW 2010 Z4,TVR Tamora, TVR Cerb, MERC SL 55 AMG, E46 M3, Z4, Jag S type R, Skyline R33 GTR 640 bhp, Evo FQ 400, L322 RR, X5, Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, Lotus Elise 135r, Nissan Murano, Honda S2000, 911, Boxster s...and a few more

That's not good at all, firstly having it stolen, but them not needing the keys is worrying

The stand out comment is they had tried to remove the tracker, I thought these were hidden away and needed searching for abouts the car

Personally, I would buy anything I could to deter the theiving scum, until LR fix this issue

It's been reported that's this is going on all over and I believe there was mention of a recall/update

Ps moved to MY14 General Setion

Well,I tried to warn of this threat in February and you deleted my post with the argument,I am advertising a tool to steal cars.
Now you are saying that stealing the car without keys is worrying.
I just tried to point out, there is a threat to RRS owners, that has to be resolved by JLR.
I then wrote you that in my opinion thieves don't need a forum like this to buy their tools...
Now maybe you understand this. Confused

I know you did, you also posted what unit to use for all to see in your link

They might not need a forum to find out how, but why list stuff to make it easier Rolling Eyes

Still worrying, for those involved though with or without your posts

Over six months some Censored are stealing rr cars like wild through whole Europe,JLR not reacting.
My antivirus for 100€ has maybe five security updates a week,my 110k€ car had to be protected by myself.

You still worrying while deleting posts trying to warn other against this.

This is hugely worrying. Jane, I can only sympathise. I've heard rumours of people getting jobs in service departments in places like BMW & Merc purely so that they can provide key codes, reg plates and location of vehicles to thieves that they know, etc. but this is something else. How did they get past the locks, Thatcham alarm and immobiliser...?!

As for JLR customer services - I'm afraid that you're just wasting your time and effort. I've had a couple of 'issues' with my brand new RRS and whilst they've been incredibly attentive and have made all the right noises - ultimately they have not been able to do anything for me. Why? Every Land Rover dealership is a franchise and JLR group can do nothing to influence their decisions/actions.

Granted, my issues were (thankfully) different to Jane's (I had problems with delivery, road noise, body panel alignments, etc - yes, etc.) but ultimately they could do nothing at all. With demand for these and other JLR cars the way it is the dealerships seem to be holding all the cards. As someone previously said - once they have your money, you're toast.

I should say that customer services were very polite and attentive - regular 'phone calls throughout the week, etc. But each and every call had the same outcome; in effect they were just calling me to reassure me that they were "very aware of how this situation must be making you feel about the product...." and that "they will do everything that they can to help resolve this situation for [me]". But there was nothing that they could do.

As for the dealership's input in to my issues; they let 5psi out of the front tyres on my car in an attempt to reduce the road roar from the front end on my car. They even managed to leave the rear axle pressures at 37psi whilst they dropped the fronts to 33psi. Incredible. Whilst I do realise that the tyre pressure ranges are 33psi unloaded and 38psi loaded, it's not exactly what I'd call a solution to the problem.

And Stuart, I think that you can put that spade down now. That hole's deep enough. Rolling with laughter MY14 RRS2, Corris, Pano, 50/50 Cirrus/Black leather, Meridien sound, 22" Style 6's, Bespoke Gap around tailgate.

While everyone seems to want to turn this into some sort of apocalyptic disaster for LR, did no-one read my first post on this thread? Or is everyone just wanting to keep flapping like the world will end tomorrow?

Get a grip! Professional car thieves are years ahead of the 'security' devices of car manufacturers, even (SHOCK HORROR) ze perfect Germans; any E number BMW is so easy to steal its unreal, so much so it should have ruined them!

Good bit of kit that Disco Thumbs Up I had a similar kit fitted to my Impreza by Clifford alarms. If i was Jane, i would be presenting this link to L/R and get them to get one fitted at their expense. Its pointless them repairing her car and not adding any further security. Banging Head Its only a matter of time before it goes again i'm afraid. Big Cry What are these guys doing with all the motors they steal? Shipping them abroard ?

I am sure they are going abroad, put in a container and shipped to goodness knows where.

Thatcham used to be the experts in vehicle security but they look now to be more like Which with review of various cars. Look up the 2014 RRS and it is rated 5 stars for "stealing of" and 4 stars for "stealing from". Good, apparently, but Jane's experience suggests Thatcham are asleep on the job and it's insurers which rely on their security and repairability data, along I expect with MIRA.

If I was Jane, I would be taking them to task. Any car which allows remote signals to be intercepted or the car's own on board electronics to download the security codes needed to programme a blank key is not fit for purpose.

Removing the CAN-BUS signal lines from the OBD connector would be an effective delaying tactic but if the car is lifted, they have the time they need to fix it. However, they've already broken into the car before they find out the OBD connector is disconnected. A visual deterrent, such as a steering wheel clamp, might stop them.

LR must not be let off the hook. These cars are being stolen to order and if there is a leak of personal address information from the dealer or a third party installer, they must be held culpable too.

The problem is that there's a trade off between security and convenience. If we lose our keys, we expect the dealer to be able to supply and program a replacement. That immediately creates a security exposure by making the equipment to do that generally available instead of being restricted to LR's production plant. Things like remote unlocking and keyless entry and keyless start increase the security exposure.

I do wonder whether a key entered PIN would be a good idea. My iPhone banking is secured only with a 5 digit PIN so that is assumed to be secure enough - doesn't stop you being forced to key it in at knife-point but would provide an additional layer of security. The key in all of this is for there not to any back-doors to allow the system to be hacked. Mark
