hdc problem

hi to every one, just join the site, and wonder if anybody can help please, got my first rrs a month ago Very Happy , 2008 2.7 se with 110,000 miles,
as it was well due for a cambelt change, i carry this out, (front & rear new pulleys oil pump) as well as a few other jobs, went out on a test drive Very Happy after about 4 miles n/s/f wheel did some strange things locking on and off, (like abs) Crying or Very sad hdc lights came on, as wall as brake light under temp gadge, saying special programs not available,
switch off and restarting sorts it out for about a mile, an then it's back on, any ideas please

Not sure about the wheel but the HDC and special programmes sounds like your batteries gone

Check your brake lights - a blown bulb can cause HDC errors.

Check your battery. Check that the alternator is charging it properly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

checked all these today, battery & charging been tested, bulbs, all good, front pads, and wear sensors abs sensors, brake warning light comes on first, n/s front wheel still locking on and off, caliper all ok and free,
so must be down to breaking system.

Have you tried driving with the DSC turned off? If so, does it still produce the symptoms? Could be a faulty yaw sensor or steering wheel angle sensor causing the DSC to think you're sliding and so using the brakes to try to keep you on the correct course. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

a yaw sensor, Mad whats that ? never heard of them before Sad went for a diagnostics check today, and come up with about 5 codes, main one steering sensor, did a battery & charge check again, charging ok Very Happy but battery slightly dowm, that's not what halfords said yesterday Evil or Very Mad but the good news is that it's probably due to the battery, the system shuts parts down to save power, and causes phantom error codes, so i'll go and get a new battery, but make sure it the right one he said, or it i'll be the same, so i left it to them to get, going back monday for it to be fitted, and the codes cleared, ho and apparently it has to be told it's got a new one fitted Laughing

The yaw sensor sits on the floor under the centre console and is used by the DSC to determine yaw rate (unsurprisingly).

Not surprised to hear it's the battery. It's a very common cause of this type of fault (hence why it was mentioned earlier in the thread). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

As the vehicle turns a corner, it experiences yaw - that is a rotational moment about the centre of its wheelbase. There is a maximum amount of yaw that can be attained whilst all four tyres are gripping. If the yaw exceeds that figure then the rear tyres have lost grip and a spin is about to occur. By comparing the yaw and the steering angle it's possible for the DSC system to determine whether the front or rear has lost grip (for example, reducing yaw with no reduction in steering angle would indicate the front tyres have lost grip and understeer is occurring).

Once the DSC knows whether the vehicle is understeering or oversteering then it can activate the appropriate brake to generate a counter-yaw moment to reduce the problem. If a sideways movement occurs when the steering is straight ahead then it will register that and reduce the power - that's one reason why you need to turn off DSC when off road; it will kill the power at the moment you probably want to be able to apply more power. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Could be as simple as the steering angle sensor needing calibrated, but needs plugged in to check the live data

collected rrs today Very Happy with new battery, and all fault codes cleared, 100 yards down the road, n/s front wheel locks on, and dash lights back on, Evil or Very Mad back to garage, and they check codes, only one comes up now, steering angle
sensor, said it needs calibrating, off to a 4x4 center to tomorrow who say they can do it, just seen disco mikey said it could be this, thanks, but tonight i see the battery which should be the right one is only 800 a and not 950 as the original is, could one confirm what it should be for a 2.7 diesel.

another new battery today 900 amps, steering angle recalibrated, codes cleared again, test drive and the dash lights back on, this time code comes up for turbos, garage checking for split turbo pipes,

Well, the other day I found out that HDC is only working when you drive forward.

I was offroading on a path with snow and ice and came to a stand still, the only way to go was to reverse. HDC in reverse would have come in very handy and as the car was just sliding down the hill and out of control unless I took the foot of the brakepedal.

anyway, I made it without scratches.

HDC does work in reverse. HDC is overridden by the brake pedal - if you touch the brakes then the system puts you back in control. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

HDC does indeed work on reverse.
yesterday I got stuck again in the snow on a steep path up. pushed the yellow button, but the car in Reverse and off the brake pedal. indeed the HDC was working correctly and saved me from an uncontrolled slide down the hill as that was what would have happened without the system.
