Terrible Experience With Equicar West Midlands

Hi

I would like to share my recent experience with Equicar (Land Rover Breakers) with you all to ensure you don't have the same problems I have had.

I rang Equicar for replacement parts on Monday for my RRS (Upper arm, Complete wheel hub) of which they confirmed they stocked, had on there shelves and all parts were tested before they were able to make available.

A price was given to me over the phone and I asked the person who I was speaking with whether they would take a lower amount which was then confirmed with there manager that they would accept providing I collected.

After travelling an hour to get to them they said that they had never agreed any price with me and insisted that I either pay the higher amount or I leave without the parts and were extremely rude, as I had no choice I paid and left as they were needed.

My mechanic had then told me when I got back again after another hour that the part they had given was the wrong part, I rang Equicar back up and found it funny and asked that I return to collect the correct part so again another 2 hours round trip.

Yesterday the mechanic fitted all the parts and there appeared to be a problem with the Hub they sold me which I then called and told them that the part couldn't have been tested which again they disputed and said they do not sell non tested parts and its not how they operate as business, after spending half an hour on the phone arguing with them I had gone back to there place and paid/collected for the same part in order for my mechanic to carry the works and it was apparent that the hub they supplied me with was bent.

I have not called the company back as I feel so angry/disgusted with the way they have treated me, they are very rude and adamant that they are right and the consumer is wrong when actually none of there parts are tested so please be cautious if you use them.

That sucks! Sorry to hear your having a nightmare Big Cry I hate it when this sort of thing happens. But isn't it always the same when you try to save a few pounds.
Better luck next time!

Tell me about it Chris if it was only few pounds trust me I would have gone dealer but were talking saving hundreds by going Breakers.

I must say though never experienced such bad level of service considering that I'm wanting to spend money with them.

Thanks for the heads up.

I was thinking about buying a used 20" Autobiography wheel off them as a spare, don't think I'll bother now. 2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography Cool

If you wanted to go through the hassle you could raise a claim in the Small Claims court (can all be done on-line) because the item they sold you was not useable. They are a business so must comply with the Sale of Goods Act even if the bit they sell is second-hand.

The fact you went there twice adds to your story and, you can claim all your 'reasonable' costs

To be honest I really couldn't be dealing with the Head ache, I've been running around all week trying to sort the car out.

If they had provided me with the parts tested in the first place I would have been up and running earlier in the week!

I think it's best to let others know what they might be getting themselves into with Equicar rather than going through the same experience.

How do you save hundreds on an arm and a hub? They only cost a couple of hundred together in the first place don't they? Most of the cost of changing either is labour. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That also puzzled me; especially with the discounts or pattern parts offered by the site sponsors. I've only ever used breakers for "vintage" parts and even then reluctantly.[/quote]

Spoke with the stealers they advised that they have stopped selling Hubs separately as the manufacturers have changed them and they can only come in pairs was approximately for a brand new £230 + vat each, on top of that they advised that you HAVE to fit a new steering rack kit with these hubs another £88.00 + VAT, upper arm wishbone £121.00 + VAT, Lower suspension arm £186.00 + VAT

On top of this the labour approximately £200.00 so all in all around £1200 - £1300.

I purchased upper arm with hub, lower suspension arm, anti roll bar link -

Total £265.00

Labour - £100.00

These are the same parts but all after market parts,

I needed the complete hub including the control bar that goes into the upper arm and connect to the hub.

It was recommended that I don't go with after market parts and to go with genuine hence the reason for the breakers.

Or bits from this page on AF's site. Steve often has OEM parts; you're then just paying the LR dealer a hefty premium for a nice LR-branded cardboard box.

S'funny but I'd rather have OEM-quality aftermarket parts than second hand bits from a broken vehicle.

Anyway, hopefully you'll be back on the road soon Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
