Hi,

Looking for a warrenty today and so far been quoted £835.00 from both Warrentywise and Warrenty Direct for my 2007 4.2 SC V8 - 84k miles

Local dealer just quoted me £745.00 for LR Extended Warrenty without LR assistance - yes they'd charge me £150 for the pre-warrenty health check - but having just bought it I've no problem with that for all round peace of mind.

Do you think a) Land Rover price is good? b) A LR warrenty is the way to go?

Do I also meed to insist certain elements are included/covered - consequential damage etc?
Any advice much appreciated.

I'm sure the consensus will be that a LR warranty is the way to go, but you just need to have your eyes wide open to know exactly what is/is not covered.
From what I've read on here, £745 seems like a good price for a LR warranty.  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

£745 is the same amount I paid for my Full LR warranty and as previously stated, make sure and read exactly what's covered and whats not, otherwise you could get a shock if something goes t!ts up............

LR only do the "Select" extended warranty (as opposed to "Approved") for cars > 5 years old or with > 75,000 miles on the clock. Select provides a significantly lesser level of cover and is cheaper for that reason. As said, make sure you check the T&Cs carefully to see what is and isn't covered and the claim limits.

AFAIK you cannot negotiate inclusion/exclusion of elements or the price with LR - it is a standard product.

Warranty Direct (never dealt with Warranty Wise) negotiate price and level of cover if you play hard to get. On paper, they provide a much better cover than LR (including wear & tear!). When it comes to claiming, some people find it easy for them to pay if you follow the procedure. Others say they try to avoid paying as much as they can.

So I guess the next question is to those who have a Warrenty Direct policy is, what did you manage to include and what as a minimum should I be asking them to include?

I have the LR Select warranty. It recently covered £1400 of work for a new rear diff on my 70k 57 plate 08MY TDV8. For the outlay of £695 for the warranty (renewed in August). They didn't cover the lower arms last year though (wear and tear). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

LR Approved warranty covered worn ARB bushes and drop links for me earlier this year though. May be that's a difference between Approved and Select that Approved covers some known-to-wear items as well? I got the impression it would cover everything except consumables (tyres, brake pads, shoes & discs etc.) but I could be wrong. Or may be at less than 4 years old and 45k miles it wasn't considered fair wear & tear.

I found the select warranty to be rubbish, they rejected all my claims due to "wear and tear"

I have now recently taken out a WD policy which includes wear and tear cover, and they have already covered the cost of ARB bushes replacement at a LR dealer..  2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography

not sure if I have miss read something here as I am looking at buying a car at he mo and warranty is something I am looking at

but

after L/R inspect the car don't you have to rectify anything that they highlight as well before the cover starts so that will add to the cost

noted that you have just bought the car and don't mind the inspection but if you bought from a dealer what sort of warranty did you get ? and if bought private how do you know nothing much will be highlighted

did you get it inspected before purchase...... which may well lead to a "by who" in case I want to do the same

^^^ So we kind of agree that Approved seems to cover a lot more than Select including some items which do wear out but are not "consumables" as such. Which is why Select is cheaper even though it is meant for older cars which in theory can have more claims.

Yes you're correct - heaven forbid LR highlight issues, then they would need to be rectified prior to them letting me take out the warrenty.

I bought from a reputable local dealer, who only trades cars of a certain standard (high) - so apart from my own visual checks, test drive and alot of help and advice from this forum of what to look out for and check - the dealer himself puts the car through a thorough RAC checking schedule, any issues found would be put right. I had a faulty indicator bulb, slight tear in driver side leather seat which he'll put right.

He gives me a 6 month RAC warrenty and will hand the car over to me on Saturday feeling sure that there are no issues.

My brother having a law firm, I know my statuatory rights too... So all in all, due dilligence has been done - but you never know!

I'll be speaking to Warrenty Direct in the next 10 mins to see what they can offer - going to press him for 'wear & tear'!

Just come off the phone with Warrenty Direct and must say 'Wow'! Very very impressive!!

I can't think of anything at all that he didn't offer me...!

It might have been such a good package because I do low miles i.e 6.000/year but everything I've read from forum members he had included for me...

- Consequential damage
- Wear and tear
- No parts to pay for
- Mot and Service protection
- Emmissions and air bags
- media and ents
- ECU
- Labour up to £200/hour
- Claim amount up to value of the car

Have I missed anything important? - 3 years for £1800

£600/annum is a good price If you sell the car and/or cancel the policy before 3 years will you get a refund?

Does media and entertainment include sat nav system also?

£200/h means it is the policy that allows the car to be repaired at franchised dealers which is good but you need to make sure you get it serviced at a main dealer too. Fair.

Is there a "betterment clause"? This is where they pay only a cerrtain percentage of parts' price, starting at 100% but it goes down as the car gets older. You could try to get that removed if there is such a clause.

Make sure you get everything clarified in writing.

Yup - includes Sat nav all media and electrics.

The £200/hour was either dealer or independent so long as VAT registered

He removed the paying a portion of parts cost - so no parts to pay whatsoever - all will be paid for and included.

All I need do is get the car to the garage they'll dothe rest.

I really can't think of anything else I'd need to check is included...!
