Another battery issue..

So my current battery is nearly dead, I have had to jump start my car 3 times this week after having it die out on me.

I have currently ordered the exide battery, 100ah which is 10 more than the LR one I have and it is a premium heavy duty battery with a cca of 900 so it shouldn't go dead on me this winter.

Although these questions might sound stupid, I just want to be sure before I change I don't want to loose any crucial settings and definatly don't want to visit a garage for any error resets or blow somthing up

1) how do you change battery on a 08 rrs?

Anyone know how long the battery can be, I wanted the bosche s5 110ah but the length was 393mm, does that fit? The average batteries are 353mm

2) apart from the windows and stuff will I get any error lights that need resetting from a garage

Thanks Thumbs Up

I've just changed mine to a Varta unit. I am an absolute biff with anything technical and even I managed it. The only snag was the varta is a bit taller, so the bracket doesn't fit anymore so I'll have to get some Longer screw things. Car was fine afterwards- quick flash of HDC not analysable on first Start but quickly cleared. Only needed to reset the clock. Battery was about 71 from batteries4cars with next day delivery.
Simple job.
Sorry can't answer the length question, but there is a little flex in the battery bay to take a slightly longer one.
Cheers
Neil

Sorry-,two screws off which hold the bracket in place- then take the negative black connector off, then the live red positive connector off. Beware the battery is heavy and fairly tricky to move into a position to get out. But simple. New one in, live on first, negative, then bracket if you can, then cover back on and that's it.
Cheers

Some people think that it's best to wait for the car to go into "sleep" mode before disconnecting the battery, but it's not essential. As BladeBoy says, just ensure that you disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last. Thumbs Up

Stop press- don't take any advice from me. Cars just packed in again and has smoke billowing out of the alternator. I think I've had one day of trouble free motoring since I brought this car!
Awaiting recovery!!!

This is a subject that often crops up here - you'd be wise to have a read of these other posts on here.

You need to consider carefully before you move away from an LR specified battery. The alternator and charging circuits are quite sophisticated and monitor a number of parameters, including ambient temperature, load etc alongside the battery's voltage etc.

So going for a higher capacity battery (which is common) can be a bad idea for the alternator and 'may' shorten its life!!!

Having issues with battery too...but reading a few post it seems replacing with a non-LR battery seems to cause altenator problems.

My car also went into limp mode this morning. came up with 'engine system fault' message. Turned it off and on and was fine. Could this also be because of the battery?

I Did change the battery on the D3 and the Battery specs listed byLandrover were only supplied by Landrover...others, who I would have rather used , didn't quite match the spec of the Landrover Battery...definateley read the handbook and let the car sleep before disconnecting.

Ok so I recieved the battery today but I havnt fitted yet.

The guys I got my car serviced from "RRLondon" say they replace batteries with the bosche ones but always replace the same spec e.g if its 90AH they'll replace with a bosche 90ah.

My local mechanic says that if you dont install the correct spec battery it might blow up the alternator.

However, I will give LR a call in the morning and if they say the same I will return the battery & just buy the same spec bosche or buy the genuine from them.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Just unpacked the new battery and when you move it about it clearly sounds like it has liquid sloshing around in it, presumably the acid.

Anyone know if that's normal?

Batteries are filled with liquid unless they are gel - very normal to hear the fluid move as long as the water is at the fill level in each cell Mike

I called LR and they quoted me 253 quid for a new battery, a lower spec one then the exide i bought for less than 90quid from carparts4less

So i called 3-4 more websites that sell the battery I have and they all said it should be fine, my local mechanic had a quick look at the battery and does not see why it should cause any problem.

I have currently installed the exide, car starts up in less then a second after being off for a week in this weather.

Hopefully nothing goes wrong. Thumbs Up

Embarrassingly my problem wasn't the alternator at all- I just hasn't tightened the battery terminals enough! All is well again!
