I've just changed mine to a Varta unit. I am an absolute biff with anything technical and even I managed it. The only snag was the varta is a bit taller, so the bracket doesn't fit anymore so I'll have to get some Longer screw things. Car was fine afterwards- quick flash of HDC not analysable on first Start but quickly cleared. Only needed to reset the clock. Battery was about 71 from batteries4cars with next day delivery.

Sorry-,two screws off which hold the bracket in place- then take the negative black connector off, then the live red positive connector off. Beware the battery is heavy and fairly tricky to move into a position to get out. But simple. New one in, live on first, negative, then bracket if you can, then cover back on and that's it.

Some people think that it's best to wait for the car to go into "sleep" mode before disconnecting the battery, but it's not essential. As BladeBoy says, just ensure that you disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last. |

Stop press- don't take any advice from me. Cars just packed in again and has smoke billowing out of the alternator. I think I've had one day of trouble free motoring since I brought this car!

This is a subject that often crops up here - you'd be wise to have a read of these other posts on here.

Having issues with battery too...but reading a few post it seems replacing with a non-LR battery seems to cause altenator problems.

I Did change the battery on the D3 and the Battery specs listed byLandrover were only supplied by Landrover...others, who I would have rather used , didn't quite match the spec of the Landrover Battery...definateley read the handbook and let the car sleep before disconnecting. |

Just unpacked the new battery and when you move it about it clearly sounds like it has liquid sloshing around in it, presumably the acid.

Batteries are filled with liquid unless they are gel - very normal to hear the fluid move as long as the water is at the fill level in each cell Mike

I called LR and they quoted me 253 quid for a new battery, a lower spec one then the exide i bought for less than 90quid from carparts4less So i called 3-4 more websites that sell the battery I have and they all said it should be fine, my local mechanic had a quick look at the battery and does not see why it should cause any problem. I have currently installed the exide, car starts up in less then a second after being off for a week in this weather. Hopefully nothing goes wrong. |

Embarrassingly my problem wasn't the alternator at all- I just hasn't tightened the battery terminals enough! All is well again! |
