United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
water ingress

I occasionally get a soggy carpet on the driver`s side footwell, of Black Bess, my 2005 RRS 2.7. No other area gets wet. If I remove the floor mat, the carpet dries out over a few days and the problem is gone until the next time.

The trouble is, I cannot see where the water is coming from. There is no antifreeze in it, so it is not from the heater. I cannot see any bungs missing from the floor. There is no sign of the door seal, the windscreen or the wiper pivots leaking. I have looked, but so far failed to find the drain pipes from the sunroof frame, they must be in there somewhere. I even thought of it being condensation from the air con, but that seems to drain externally ok, so i am stuck.

Anyone had a similar experiance, or any ideas for the source of the flood?

Cheers
Adam..

Find somewhere dry - open the sunroof - in each corner is a drain hole - pour water down the front ones & look for it exiting the car on to the floor by the wheel arch ( where the mud flaps would be ).

It comes through slowly - good luck Thumbs Up If either are blocked use the search function on the banner above that should help. 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

If it is not blocked sunroof drains causing the problem it can be a worn seal around the roof panel. The seal is not 100% waterproof but is designed to keep the ingress of water within the ability of the sunroof drains to drain it away. If the seal is worn it lets in so much water in a downpour that the drains cannot cope and the channel in the sunroof recess overflows into the headlining and the water can find its way into all sorts of places - sometimes the interior lights and maybe the footwell down the A pillars. The fix is to replace the seal on the roofpanel but it is a bit fiddly. I had exactly this problem not on my RRS but on a Porsche 944 turbo.

Another possibility is a known problem with the external A pillar trim panel and there is a Land Rover kit to fix it - Part No. LDHB500400. The kit only costs £9 and is really easy to fit. The kit does both sides.

Do a Google search for Technical Bulletin LTB00034 and you will find the instructions on how to fix water leaks including the A pillar kit. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thank you everybody for your advice. I think you have given me a flash of inspiration, I will go and look at the drain tubes from the sunroof. I reckon it must be that.
