Electrical issue - Drivers seat, drivers door lock & mir

Hi Guys

So - the beast is still running and going well (enough). Been to France and back recently, no issues and she was szeet the whole way there and back. But over the last few months the left hand drivers mirror started to develop a mind of it's own, pointing wherever it wanted.... then both outside mirrors stopped working, and then I've discovered that the drivers door doesn't lock on the button (I've been locking it manually then closing door and locking the rest on the button).

I've looked over all the manuals with the thing, but no notes or clues. I checked the fuses - they are all OK too....
I'm wondering is there a relay to change, or a place to hit it with a big hammer, or even a new God to pray to?

Any hints?

Thanks

Had a moment of clarity and went back to the fuse box. There are multiple fuses for each seat and after a review of ALL the fuses that cured 2 of the problems - one was blown and now the seat and mirrors are OK again. But the drivers door lock still isn't locking. It doesn't make sense as when I lock it manually and then lock the rest of the car on the button, it will unlock on the other button. Defintiely not a fuse (I pulled a lot to check and double check) I guess the next step will be taking the door card off and looking into the depths to see if the mechanism is broken. Sad

Not looking forward to it..... Maya Gold TDV6 HSE, only 72k miles! Still put's a smile on my face every time i press the loud pedal...

Probably your driver's door latch mechanism is faulty. There are two little electric motors one to lock and one to unlock. The locking one gets weak. Easiest fix is to buy a new latch from Duckworths and fit it yourself. A bit fiddly but if you take your time and follow the instructions here:

http://disco3.co.uk/forum/topic33743.html?...lock%5C%22

Takes an hour or two so leave yourself a morning to do it on a nice warm day.

Will all be sorted for cost of the latch which has recently gone up from about £40 to about double that I think (nice one LR). 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks for the info Paddi - I'll have to make do until I can get the time to have a go. More pressing issues at present - like my timing belts and lower wishbones at the front.... Car still locks when I use the "manual override"!

Cheers!! Thumbs Up Maya Gold TDV6 HSE, only 72k miles! Still put's a smile on my face every time i press the loud pedal...

Well - I don't want to jinx the bloody thing, but the door started locking again all by itself!! I did nothing other than operate it manually for a few weeks (pushing the lock cloed in handle befor closing and locking the car with fob)

I saw it moving when fooling around with locking and relocking the car sitting inside when trying to clear an airbag warning light - and lo and behold the locks work again??

Brilliant - at least it's saved a few quid...

It's in today having the front end polybushed..... should be nice and tight after that.

Flashing lights and other stuff stil happening, but the car works apart from that, so Ican't complain too much (and I can't afford to change it either!!!!!

But I am tempted by a Jag XF Sportbrake Very Happy Maya Gold TDV6 HSE, only 72k miles! Still put's a smile on my face every time i press the loud pedal...

Good news on the door latch then. The motors don't die completely - they just get a bit weak owing to brush wear so its possible operating it manually loosened things up enough for it to work; for now.

So some brave soul is re-bushing your lower arms? Interested to hear how that goes because replacing the bushes is said to be such a PIA that usual fix is to just replace the whole arms which come with the bushes already in.

Assuming your heroic mechanic manges to change the bushes for poly - will be interested how it feels and sounds. Hear a lot of complaints about polybushes giving a harsh ride and also squeaking. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi

Well. The polybushes are done and the diference in many ways is really evident.

Firstly all the clunking and movement from the front end is gone - hooray!! Very Happy
Secondly - the car feels tighter and more direct, plus the wander is gone from the front end.
Thirdly - yes indeed there is much more road noise and "feeling" transmitted now than before, but it's a fair trade for the improvement in drivability. No squeaking at all - plus no clunking as i said already ( hooray again!!) Thumbs Up

He said it was a bitch of a job for sure - the big bushes took a lot of persuading and heat to come out of their hiding place. But the reason he likes to polybush them is that the bigger wheels (I'm running 20" wheels) destroy the standard bushes quite quickly, whereas the poly's are lifelong. BTW - they are orange polybushes so the middle one's in terms of hardness.

On the flashing lights on cold start up and system recycling. He measured voltages during it happening and it seems the output voltage from the new alternator is about 1 volt too much. He's checking with the supplier if that's usual, as he suspects that this could be causing the car to shut things down in an effort to protect them. Maybe that's guesswork - but it's anew idea and he's following up for free. He might ask for a replacement for the new alternator if they say it shouldn't be over the normal level.

I'll keep you all posted.

Cheers

Thanks for the update Tim.

Good to hear you are happy with the polybushes. Would most of us be happy with 'lots more road noise' though? Bit of a personal choice.

Best of luck with the electrical gremlins. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
