There are idlers on the aux belt, but they rarely give any trouble. The tensioners can sometimes give trouble, as the casing starts to split. But, they are £75 quid from LR. And if it does fail, it is only 20 mins or so to replace Thumbs Up

Your specialist is correct, in that the rear belt only does the HPFP. If it breaks, it will cause no damage, and the car will roll to a stop.
However, you are living on borrowed time at that point. LR state 105k/7years for a reason, and I wouldn't like to rely on a car, with the niggling doubt in my mind that it could break down at any time...

The belt kit costs £40, and worst case, takes an hour to change it. Thumbs Up
In fact, I done a set of belts at the weekend, and done the rear belt in 20 minutes.

Cheers for the aux belt info, looks like I can just do the belt there then looking at your comments.
Any advice on where to get that from as I don't think I saw any at the site approved place you sent me?

On the rear belt I agree completely with your opinion as it is niggling in my mind too as that'll be the only one not changed!
But the specialist said it is a fiddly job and takes 9.5 hours to do and quoted me £500 + vat!
Seems ridiculous with your £40 belt and 20 minute change quote!
Thing is he's an honest bloke and told us don't bother for that reason, so he's not trying to rip me off as he'd have said 'do it' and his quote for the other belts is cheapest of the 14 (yes 14!) dealers and specialists I rang in the North West.
So I'm not quite sure what's going on there! Confused

Also, apologies if slightly off topic but I'm having the suspension compressor done when it's in for the belts at the same place (dreaded 'drive at normal height' message and slow fill compressor problem) and the guy is cheapest of my 14 calls again at £550 + vat.
Any views/advice?

Thanks very much, just trying to get the right things done, and the best deal, nothing more! Wink
