2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Adriatic Blue

Hi there beancounter, the mechanism pulls out and turns as usual (was fully releasing etc yesterday prior to me locking the key lock with the new key today). It doesnt turn far enough now to release the towbar due to the key lock being in the locked position. Have tried turning the key whilst the green knob is at all positions but to no avail.

Imagine if you paid over £2000 for an electronic deployable version and then got stuck in a field in the rain trying to get home but it wont come out to hitch your caravan and you forgot the WD40 Embarassed

These are temperamental to say the least - you could try knocking the swan neck with a hammer in case it is not seated correctly and preventing the key from turning - I once made the mistake of leaving mine on the car overnight because we got back late and could I get the Censored off next morning Evil or Very Mad

Couple of taps and key turned and released - never made that mistake again Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Question. Being more familiar with these than me, when u put in the red disk westfalia key is it supposed to stop 3-4mm short of fully butting up to the green handle?

The tow ball operation is dead simple and actually if you reflect on it solve-able.

You mention the handle is moving and rotating the lock, but that the towball isnt releasing?

get on your back look up the back of the towball...a little higher into the receiver and the hole for the lug (which stops it falling out) is there...with the handle in the unlock, make sure its moving then if its just leaving the catch in a little - with an implement like a screw driver - push the release lug in all the way.

If the handle isnt moving at all...then again its simple, just take the cover off and remove the internals to release the lug.

Hi and thanks muddywheels, ur pictures confirm the key is going in enough. MSE, I cannot get enough on the lug to knock it through. When u say take the cover off, u mean silver or green side? Thanks all, really appreciate this.

Hmmm caravans, tried 'em, not for me... I joined a vdub forum but never used it other than to get £20 off my insurance as a 'regular enthusiast', have now experience the value of them Thumbs Up . On the tow bar btw it was the lock at fault, completely jammed as rest of mechanism is moving fine, key still wont turn when deconstructed... let me see if ebay seller will refund me the cost of replacement part.... Rolling with laughter

and my ebay seller did indeed refund me the cost of a replacement lock. Good chap!! In the meantime I bought a Thule tow bar and when proceeding to show the mechanic the fault with the other one, got it put back together and working!! I am now the proud owner of two fully working tow bars!! Whistle
