Roof Bars/Rails

Thinking of adding roof rails but ruling out Genuine LR due to £410 cost Rolling Eyes

These look the same and wondered if anyone has bought/fitted them and if so are they any good Bow down

Also looked at these but spacing is restrictive, more expensive, harder to remove when not needed and don't think will work for my roof box Sad

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black

ive got those whisper bars mate and there sop on and litrally take 10 min to fit and take off and thats pottering not rushing . they are very very quite to.

i like them as think the rails spoil the look of the HST and with these i just pop them off.

id say only downside is your at a set distance apart unlike the rooof fails wich you can move in for a smaller load. but seen as i only ever have bike ,kayak or ladders on roof this dont really bother me

theres some pics of them on my car in my gallery.

oh and if you do get dont forget that the grommets on your roof screw in/out and not push/pull ones as i found out the hard way hahah only the dead truely know peace,
Bootneck its not a job its a way of life!

Cheers Chilly Thumbs Up

I can carry kayaks no problem on yours but my Jaguar/Thule X1 Roof box shows minimum space between bars of 623mm so don't think they will work for this Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I am looking at these

I bought these and to be honest they are ok but they come in from China and arrived with a key snapped off in the lock.
Supplier sent another very quickly. The rails which bolt on are ok but I dont like the slot in crossbars as I think the quality and fit are second best.I use it after having Thule clip on fit with aero bars which are also good but clumsy looking.
Next time I would bite the bullet and fork out double for LR parts. These fit but are NOT best alternative.

That doesn't sound good Whippetman. I will probably only use the roof box once this year on the RRS and kayaks can now go on my sons car so didn't really want to fork out 3x cost for Genuine LR Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I have just fitted these today and not happy Evil or Very Mad

Had to remove black gutter cover from roof to drill holes and one side only had 2 clips so came off with no effort Shocked

First runner fitted but front plastic end cap snapped while fitting Rolling Eyes

Second runner bolts tightened as hard as possible but rail loose and head stripped on one bolt, no instructions in box and cross bars very hard to fit and slide Big Cry

Now wishing I'd bough genuine Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Sorry to hear that, but did try and warn you all!
Still got mine fitted and only use it for bike carrying.
I sometimes worry the crossbars may just jump out of the rail or worse still even snap! Sad

I should have listened to you but thought for occasional use it was enough to spend - now regretting it Embarassed

Will contact powerful UK today and see what they say Sad

If you can get a saw on it, then you might be able to saw a slot in it and use a screwdriver. Need to be careful though as the metal can deform when you use the screwdriver. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

How much of the bolt is protruding? The traditional technique is to use an 'Erwin' stud extractor but there needs to be enough protruding to get the extractor onto it. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Whippetman - you may want to replace the locks with some Thule barrels - just noticed the ones supplied are thule copies but no key number so they must all have the same key Confused

The bolt is recessed in the channel and can not see how to cut it or grip it to remove Sad

Seller has offered a refund but need to remove first without damaging and will then be left with 3 holes in roof channel Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

My local land rover specialist has removed the offending bolt Very Happy

He used his favourite tool - a big hammer and a driver Laughing

I now realise the cover strips fitted when built only have 2 clips each - one front and 1 back - the others all appear to be missing Shocked

Also because they have been drilled to bolt on the roof bars the old caps are too small to do any good and they are likely to come off if I do any kind of speed Big Cry

So need to get new covers or genuine roof rails pronto Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
