2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Siberian Silver
RRS 2006 TDV6 Engine seized?

Driving normally then flapping noise from offside front. Flapping stopped, battery and oil warning lights came on and power disappeared. Battery power ok but engine won't turnover. Lifted to dealers but anyone any ideas before the service department opens on Monday?

Sounds very much like timing belt snapped or belt tensioner detached, same destructive effect,(becoming a quite common occurrence with pre '09 TDV6's), really hope it's not this,as it will more than likely require a replacement engine . RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

06MY's were usually OK for cambelt tensioners falling off. It was the 07/08MY's that had issues...

That said, the bottom ends of the 05/06 cars were not great. It has now been superceded to the same as the 2.7 in the D4 due to spun crank bearings

However, it could be something as simple as a failed alternator, or the aux belt (or its tensioner) has failed, and the battery has discharged with no belt turning the alternator. The engine has stopped due to lack of voltage, and the same lack of voltage will not be enough to turn the engine over. Both are extremely common issues, and relatively cheap to repair, so lets hope for the best Thumbs Up

2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Siberian Silver

Ok, the LR dealer has now had a look and they say they 'can't turn the engine manually, it's looking like the crank has seized'. They've drained the oil, there's 'metal in the sump' so there 'seems to be an internal failure of the engine'. They're quoting 'worst case scenario' £10,500 inc vat for new engine and new turbo, for which I get a one-year guarantee.

I've found a company in London who will take the car away, re-manufacture the existing engine and bring it back for, worst case scenario, about £5,000 inc vat, for which I get a five-year guarantee.

Both will take about 2/3 weeks. Any opinions or thoughts welcome.

What sort of mileage have you done and do you have FSH - subject to this I would expect a contribution from LRCS - cars like this should be good for 100's of thousand miles Rolling Eyes

Be very wary of "re-manufactured" or "re-conditioned" engines.

JLR + PSA do not supply replacement parts for the bottom end of the TDV6 engine. You cannot buy pistons, rings, main bearings or big end bearings.

There is also no aftermarket suppliers of said parts either.

After exchanging a few emails with various "specialists" they are not even willing to supply the parts to anyone to re-build their own engine Whistle Rolling Eyes

I am in exactly the same situation as yourself, and have done a lot of research over the last few months Thumbs Up

Would Ford (US) sell parts? Here in Oz the same engine is in the Ford Explorer.

I thought the Explorer was only the petrol V6 - do you mean the Territory.

I would have thought the ACCC would jump on a car company that only supplied complete engines and not component parts.

Hopefully using Fuchs Pro-S 5w30 oil every time mine has an oil change will give my '06 a long and healthy life Shocked

There's much better oil than the standard Magnatec stuff according to the Opie Oils gurus 2006 TDV6 SE, Zermatt Silver

actually there are aftermarket main bearings and big ends that we have managed to get which were specifically manufactured to address the problems associated with the failed mains and bigends.
