I've found a company in London who will take the car away, re-manufacture the existing engine and bring it back for, worst case scenario, about £5,000 inc vat, for which I get a five-year guarantee.

Be very wary of "re-manufactured" or "re-conditioned" engines.

JLR + PSA do not supply replacement parts for the bottom end of the TDV6 engine. You cannot buy pistons, rings, main bearings or big end bearings.

There is also no aftermarket suppliers of said parts either.

After exchanging a few emails with various "specialists" they are not even willing to supply the parts to anyone to re-build their own engine Whistle Rolling Eyes

I am in exactly the same situation as yourself, and have done a lot of research over the last few months Thumbs Up

Hi,
actually there are aftermarket main bearings and big ends that we have managed to get which were specifically manufactured to address the problems associated with the failed mains and bigends.
ill post a picture

Best to look in the FAQs and follow instructions for creating an album and then posting from your album to the forum. It is actually not as much of faff as it sounds 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

You see, this is my issue. I want to rebuild my own engine. I am perfectly capable of doing so, but no one will supply parts.

Its all good and well taking a TDV6 to bits, and taking a picture of some shells (which in all reality could be from any engine)

IMHO, its still a gamble with a "recon" engine due to this issue...

I perfectly understand what you are saying but nothing is impossible to find or do and as I've once been told myself...

So, if the parts are out there, why wont you supply them? You could make a fortune in doing so...

Because i spend a fortune on them as it is, too much i think, anymore would be ripping people off so we offer a rebuild package instead of supplying them, and those who are doubtful of them being pictures of any random shells are more than welcome to come inspect them whilst we rebuild their engine Mr. Green

In all reality, you could charge whatever you want for them. Still cheaper than £3000 (+ VAT) for a recon short block from Land Rover...
